PANAMA

Panama, for you who don't know about it, our beautiful country is located in Central America east of Costa Rica and west of Colombia. Our capital is Panama. Our currency is the US Dollar, but we also have our own coins (Balboa) With the help from the US we seceded from Colombia in 1903 and with return we signed a treaty with US allowing them to build the canal and giving them a strip of land which was the other side of the canal called the Canal Zone. When the canal was built, an agreement was also signed by both the US and Panama that by the end of 1999 there would be a complete tranfer of military bases, canal and land back to us Panamanians which did take place Dec 31st 1999. Another important fact, in 1989 the US helped us depose Dictator Manuel Noriega. In Panama we speak mostly Spanish, but there is also English so many are bilingual. Our weather is hot all year round and mainly is just a beautiful country and we are proud of it.

Our Beautiful Panama Pictures

LEO (our Red Nose Pit)

Leo is our red nose pitbull. We love him very much and are against the banning of pitbulls 100% Leo, like many other pitbulls, is a very loving and happy dog. He is great with kids, and wouldn't hurt a fly. We believe that is all about how you raise your dog, and yes, your dog, not only the pitbull will hurt a human. Agressiveness exists in any breed of dog, and only because the pitbull is a dog that has history of being used for fighting, it doesn't have to be classified as an agressive breed. Which by the way is very wrong for people to fight them, they don't deserve it. Territorial, yes they are, but so are other terriers... If you have a pitbull raise him/her the right way and everyone will be happy. On the news we always hear bad casualties caused by pitbulls when there are many other dogs that cause it too. Why aren't they on the news? Again is how you raise the dog. APBTs have a lot strength, confidence, and lots of energy. They have a lot of enthusiasm too and make excellent family companions. Because of their size and extreme energy they need an owner who will constantly socialize and give them attention to release their energy just like raising a hyper-active child. Play fetch, take him/her for walks, socialize them. Don't keep them caged, chained, or indoors... how would you like it? Check out his pics in our photo album(s).

MR PANAMA'S SIDE:

THE BEST OF REGGAE

Music:

Mr Panama Says:

As Spanish reggae has gotten popular over the last decade, Panamanian reggae artists have increasingly felt that their contributions are being overlooked and their music has been copied and changed by Puerto Rican musicians. People ask who invented Spanish reggae so I plan to answer it. Many believe it was created in Puerto Rico, but actually it came from Panama. Spanish reggae sounds very similar to Jamaican reggae, except for the fact that it's language is usually Spanish, not English. The reason for so is because Panama is home to many West Indians, whose culture originally produced reggae. They moved to Panama to build the Panama Canal and stayed to make a life. Spanish reggae was invented during the 1980’s. Panamanian musicians like El General and Renato were the ones that started popularity of Spanish reggae all over the world. While Puerto Rican artists dominate the airwaves, Panamanians feel overlooked. Puerto Ricans are getting recognition for inventing Spanish reggae, which really belongs to Panamanians. Spanish Reggae originated with such artists as El General, Aldo Ranks and Kafu Banton, before becoming popular in Puerto Rico and in Puerto Rico they changed it around not only in the reggae beat but by also giving it the new name reggaeton. Many believe Puerto Rican artists like Vico C and Ivy Queen were the originators, but do your search and you will find out otherwise. It seems to me that only Puerto Rican Spanish reggae is played on the Spanish radio stations here. On the few shows that include any Spanish reggae at all, the music is by members of the Reggaeton group of Puerto Rican artists. Similar groups exist for Honduran and Panamanian musicians, but their music almost never gets played on the Spanish radio stations. Panamanian Spanish reggae artists get angry with Puerto Ricans, whom they accuse of trying to copy the Panamanian sound. When I go to Panama, I constantly hear a lot of Panamanian reggae artist complain about Puerto Rican musicians, saying that beats are stolen from them and their lyrics are immitated which search of lyrics and sounds can prove. Even though Panamanians are not being given credit for inventing Spanish reggae, we Panamanians know that we invented Spanish reggae and that we have the Caribbean roots and language to prove it and with pride. We respect Puerto Ricans and are not haters so haters please stay away. I as many Panamanians am just tired of our contribution being overlooked and just wish someone would stand up and give the right originators the attention and credit they deserve. One more thing, sometimes many take this info offensively and read it wrong. Remember I am not talking about the reggaeton i am talking about the Spanish reggae being disrespected and overlooked. Also if you have any questions refer to our Reggae History blog and if you don't find your answer there message me. Thanks for your time, Much Respect.
