About Me

BRICKTOP was born June 11. 1980 in Huntington, Long Island NY. At the age of 4 he and his family moved from America to Switzerland. He doesn’t remember a lot from his childhood (blame it on the side effects of personality extendin substances which he consumed enough in the past years). In the year 1992/1993 BRICKTOP had the first contact with Hip Hop. The masterpiece that excited BRICKTOP so much was ICE CUBE’s album Predator. The hard, raw beats and the aggressive rhymestyle went down well with BRICKTOP. The G-Funk years followed which allowed the basketball playing, gin drinking and bluntz smoking BRICKTOP fly in to a totally new era.In 1995, inspired by his idol LORD FINESSE, BRICKTOP grabbed a mic und started writing his first serious lyrics. With a buddy from Rüti ZH (Switzerland), BRICKTOP recorded his first track in a homestudio. This recording is rare and BRICKTOP just has the track recorded on tape. The reactions and props that he got from his people on the block were so good that he decided to push it to the next level. In 1996, BRICKTOP (those years known under the name TOM DA BOMB or BRIGATTI) met the DJ and shop owner DR. FROG. This guy organized open-mic-sessions in his store BUM (the store with the best toasted sandwiches in town) behind the Volkshaus in Zürich. Many local MC’s and DJ’s used to come by and perform. And so BRICKTOP had a platform on which he met different MC’s like FACE, PSYCHO CLAN, E.K.R., SAMURAI or COMIC and SUGGS to work on his lyrics. The autumn of that year was the first time the MC TSUNAMI crossed the path of BRICKTOP. What started with discussions about Hip Hop ended with Freestyle-Sessions at TSUNAMI’s home and those two found out they shared the same passion for the music.BRICKTOP, who started to become addicted to dope beat’s and hot mic’s liked to get in contact with DJ SHIFT to kick freestyles in his rather small bandroom. These years passed by and many lyrics found their way to a piece of paper, till BRICKTOP got in contact in the year 1997/1998 with the legendary FROGSHOW from DR. FROG. The Freestyle-Show which got airplay every second week in the month on Radio LORA gave the listener the chance to hear dope MC’s or to pick up the phone to call up and freestyle to the subject of the show. BRICKTOP (known as BRIGATTI at the time) called up a few times in his lunchbreak to kick his alcoholic, drug-abusing, police-hating stories about his neighbourhood in Rüti ZH (Switzerland) to reach the hearts of the listeners. When BRICKTOP got jobless DR. FROG gave him the chance to rhyme live in the studio, BRICKTOP couldn’t turn that offer down.In the years 2002 the radio station cut down the air for the FROGSHOW and DR. FROG closed his store. BRICKTOP locked himself up in his bandroom of the SMALL ASS ROOM-Crew, which he and TSUNAMI founded years ago. BRICKTOP started recording freestyles and a few tracks which he actually never released that openly. DJ SEEK, who was chillin’ sometimes in the SMALL ASS ROOM, asked BRICKTOP and TSUNAMI to help him for his mixtape which he wanted to release and BRICKTOP recorded a cool intro.Still jobless and with no motivation, BRICKTOP slowly got addicted to alcohol. Things got so hectic that he suddenly got into beef with DJ SEEK and TSUNAMI and moved out of the SMALL ASS ROOM. Pretty planless and not drunk enough BRICKTOP hooked up with another friend and moved into his room and then started to pick up the mic again. Personal frustration and a paranoid neighbour didn’t help him to get along with recording some tracks so BRICKTOP packed his bags and went on the run. (In the meantime TSUNAMI, DJ SEEK and BRICKTOP squashed their beef and were friends again). In the year 2005, BRICKTOP got into contact with DJ SHIFT again who told him that he would like to create some beats for him. The next few years BRICKTOP now changed his style to horrorcore (thanks to the excessive consume of tracks by CAGE, NECRO and the GRAVEDIGGAZ) so the beats had to be dark and gloomy to please him personally. He recorded his Swiss-german track “STREET-DOCTOR” and started to freestyle regularly with local MC: HOMI MC, which BRICKTOP met and started to respect before his last days in the SMALL ASS ROOM. The track “STREET-DOCTOR” is a tribute to all the drug dealers and the organized drug business. After that BRICKTOP recorded just tracks in English. The track “SO-CALLED-FRIENDS” is dedicated to all those false friends that fucked or hurt BRICKTOP in someway. A while later BRICKTOP collaborated with the local-matador HOMI MC, which in BRICKTOP’s opinion was the best work he ever released. At the moment BRICKTOP is recording new tracks with DJ SHIFT and is happy when people slide him some beats. ............................................................ FROG in Kontakt kam.
