My name is JAN PETERSEN and I am the guitarplayer in a band called SYLVAN . I am composer and teacher for electric guitar.
Last year I produced the prog rock CD "The Ray of Spring" together with Singer Frank Wollenburg. This studio project is called BEYOND THE BLUE .
"The Ray Of Spring" contains 10 songs that are telling the story of a couple whose love is put to a test. The music is made for people who love the guitar. And it has got a high approach of playing an instrument. It is not made for the background while doing the dishes or something like that. It is made for a 70 minute listening experience. I recommend to you, do yourself a favour and take some time before you put the cd in your player. Sit back in a comfortably way and maybe put on your headphones. Close your eyes, listen to the music loud - but carefully! - and be aware of all the details in the music, try to fall into the music. Than you will have a REAL individual and intimate music experience!
To get an imagination what my music is considered to be you are invited to listen to the songs above.
The first song is my recent one. It is called "love flows" because there have been a lot of intense feelings that flew through my body during the writing process. The titel is not very unique or special, I know, but it fitted perfectly to my state of mind in that period. I played all the stuff by myself, including drums and bass. There is a lot of slide guitar in it, too!
The second song is from "The Ray of Spring" album. It is my favourite one, though, it changes quite often, i have to admit. I recommend to all of you to buy the entire album. You will get a lot of strong and intense guitar music with lyrics and vocals by classic singer Frank Wollenburg.
The third tune is an instrumental one which - in a certain way - sums up my solo works over the past 21 years. It..s called "Jemology". I think it is quite simple, 2 chord progressions, 2 basic melodies, the same drum&bass parts. The idea behind that was to write a tribute to a famous guitarist (who I admire since his days with Whitesnake) and his specific type of electric guitars he developed. My favourite ones though I..ve never owned one yet (so, please buy the CD!!) The guitars are called "Jem". This guitar has been introduced in the mid 80..s by this crazy guitar lunatic from Beverly Hills, responsible for impossible guitar parts in Frank Zappa..s Band at the age of 18 and later on. My song "Jemology" was produced at the Pfeffersackstudio, which is my homerecording studio here in Hamburg, where I like to live a lot. I used a Ibanez electric guitar built and achieved in 1992, a whammy foot pedal (which makes the pitch sounds in the melody) and my 12 string acoustic guitar on which I wrote the chord progression when I got it new. I recorded the electric guitar with a little red digital preamp and arranged the drums, the bass and the keyboards on my computer. Hope, you like it! Thank you very much for your interest!
