Funk Drummer/Percussionist and BV’s.

About Me

I started playing drums at age 12 and was born 2nd son to Gold Logie winner Hazel Phillips. Mum was voted Best Female personalty in 1967. She was the first woman on Australian Television. ATN Seven, She was in the original "Beauty and the Beast" with Eric Baum. She was also the last person to interview Sharon Tate alive, before she was murdered by Charles Manson. I attended N.I.D.A and went to "The New School" with teachings by Rudolf Steiner Hertfordshire, England. After a couple of school bands I joined a jazz/funk band called "Maya". My brother, Mark was, and is, a great Guitarist, and had a big influence on me. We played numbers by Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Miles Davis & Toto, and generally played a few gigs at Universities. After doing that for a few years up and down the Northern Beaches of Sydney, playing parties, being totally cocooned in our own musical exclusivity and no-one got it! I met Howard Jackson, Guitarist and Singer/songwriter, we started "Sweet Poison" an original two piece band and went to Tasmania to rehearse and write. we played some big festivals, local pubs, uni gigs... and after a while added a young art school student to play bass. Howard played incredible guitar and had 100 original songs, intelligent lyrics that captivated me. We built a big following and started touring very quickly. Sweet Poison supported all the touring bands in Tasmania and then the mainland, with the help of manager Rob Potts. We toured all over Australia and played with all the top bands over a few years, This gave me the grounding to be a good professional live drummer, working with the best sound systems in the country at that time. We had a permanent road crew of three and worked hard. Howard and I played together for fifteen years changing names to Suite Poison and eventually Lunar Circus,(some clips on display) playing six nights a week and being featured in magazines like Ram and On the Street. We played so many gigs. During those years in the eighties, We decided to call it a day in the early 90s, I had built a wealth of experience as a drummer and music took me to places and introduced me to many people and muso’s all over the country who became friends: Marc Hunter, Michael Hutchins, Ted Mulry, Steve Gilpin, most of who havent survived. I got into a couple of Sydney cover bands: Ted Heath goes Latin, A funk band called Bastiaans Fascination, an original rock band called Viva lost Wages. I moved to Brisbane for a few years, played in a cover band called Jump Club, we played all over the South East. Andrew G (Aussie Idol fame) was part of our road crew and we had some wild times. Iv’e done stints as DJ, M.C., Duos, singing covers in coffee shops, Spruiker, Entertainment manager at a couple of resorts, you name it, I gave it a go. Since moving to the Gold Coast I appeared at The Castle Theatre Restaurant in Tugun for 3 to 4 years, singing, dancing and lead actor for a while. Mike was a great boss, we all had a ball. you can see that footage on Mikes myspace, Mike Chavaux he will always be a friend. The biggest thrill for me over that period was becoming reunited with my daughter Sophie. Her Mum had passed. I love and cherish my gorgeous daughter who has conquered the unconquerable in bringing up two such wonderful kids under the most difficult situations. I LOVE HER. I met Mel and Damo and the Castle because we were all in the show together, once after the show we jammed and Cloud 9 was formed. We recorded an album Soulfire and played at local gigs/parties and festivals including Joy Fest, Wollumbin and Woodford. During one of these festivals I sat in with Future Native, as their drummer hadn’ shown. Ive been with Future Native for about four years now and have toured with them to Canada and Texas for C.M.W. and SXSW. I’m proud to have three children Sophie, Nicholas and Joshua. Sophie is married to a wonderful Irish man called Mick and they have two wonderful children called Sean and Amy. Nicholas is in the Navy and I am very proud of him. He is 21 now. I married Andrea on the 20th of November 2005 and we are soul mates and totally connected in all the good ways. I love my life now, I’ve got the best of everything, My wife is wonderful and I love her, She supports everything I do with total conviction and that doubles my strength. We get to travel and play music. Now through myspace I can actually contact my idols WOW. Future native are still a pert of my life, we all have many commitments and I’m the founder of a hot funk band that started rehearsals recently and with Fiona Scott: Lead vocals/percussion. A true professional who has had much experience in bands, shows, dancing...she’s got a great voice too! Mark Phillips, guitarist, who I love and he’s a great guitarist. Peter:keyboard player/2nd guitar/vocals who is a lovely man and will bring so much to this band and is a great .Mathew on sax/trumpet and vocals and me: Drums/percussion/vocals the band is Funk You Very Much. All we need now is a hot bass player. Much love and peace to you and thanks for taking the time to read my bio, speak to you on the site. Cheers Scott.
