If you can't laugh at yourself, make fun of other people.

About Me

Since all of you are friends, I don't think I need to introduce myself. I'm just getting things set up here, but plan to post here regularly and try and keep in touch with everyone.I am a happily married husband and father, who enjoys his family and friends both old and new.

My Interests

I love music, movies and reading. I love the outdoors, be it on the quiet beach near my home or snowmobiling to my camp in the winter. Burnt Woods Bash and the Burnt Woods Crib Championship are highlights of my year.Anyone who reads my blogs will see I'm a big fan of mixed martial arts, particularly the UFC. I'm not a violent person, I just enjoy the sport.

I'd like to meet:

Stephen King. I'd have a few questions for him, mainly about the Dark Tower series.I'm also an admirer of Michael Moore, and would love to sit and have a conversation with him. And, of course, Bono.

Music:

Very little new music interests me. If I'm popping in a CD it's usually something from the late 80s or early 90s, when glam metal reigned supreme. I also love older classic stuff - am a big fan of Elvis, the Beatles, the Stones and love Led Zeppelin. I also may be the biggest Kiss fan you'll ever meet. My favourite bands of the past 10 years are The Tragically Hip and Collective Soul.

Movies:

I am a huge horror movie fan. My favourite film of all time is Jaws, while a guilty pleasure is the Friday the 13th franchise. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre scares the living crap outta me. Some of my favourite recent flicks are Hostel, Wolf Creek and the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. Non-horror favourites include Almost Famous, Forrest Gump, the original Star Wars trilogy, The Matrix flicks, Lord of the Rings, Shawshank Redemption, Reservoir Dogs and Footloose.

Television:

Don't really watch a whole lot of TV anymore. When I do it's often whatever hockey game is on that particular evening, or Canadian political shows like Mike Duffy Live or Question Period. I also enjoy Blind Date reruns and The Ultimate Fighter.

Books:

Am a long-time Stephen King fan. Own his entire collection and have read them all several times over. Other fiction writers I enjoy are Peter Abrahams and Michael Connelly, and in my younger days loved a good Louis L'Amour western. For non-fiction, I love to read about Canadian political history, and am currently tracking down and reading biographies of our past prime ministers.

Heroes:

My grandfathers, Millard Wagstaff and Reginald Barron, both Second World War veterans.

My blog

I was surprised to come by here today and see that my blog had six views today. What's surprising is that I haven't written here in quite some time. I noticed that most everyone I know is on Facebook ...

Steph turns 40, Rampage rolls on

A pretty quiet day at home. I got to finish up my work, after taking the family to the cat show in Parrsboro. Don't really understand those types of things. We went for a walk down to the beach this a...

Almost on vacation

A busy day as expected, trying to clean up stuff before I'm off. Got most of my work done. Highlight of the day was going in to take photos of the Grade Primary students at PRES. As soon as I walked i...

"Give me liberty or give me death"

What a week it's been at the office. First I try to catch up after being away for two weeks, and then I'm trying to clean things up so I'm ready to go off for another week. Today was pretty hectic, as...

Well, I've been back to work for two full days now and I'm already I'm looking forward to being back on vacation next week. Judging by how cold it was today, we better enjoy anything resembling summer...

Lazy Labour Day

Pretty slow day here, which is just the way holidays should be, in my humble opinion. Did pretty much nothing all morning. It was windy and a little cold, so not really fit for doing much outside. Lau...

Rec riding with my boy

Got the four-wheeler out today after Mackenzie went for her nap and took Neale for the ride he's been waiting for. I had a few things I wanted to take to the camp, so that was our destination, but I r...

End of summer cleanup

I got a stupid cricket here in the basement with me and it's driving me nuts. How do these things get in here? Neale and I went to Parrsboro today to buy gas for the lawn mower. He's so well behaved w...

Happy Birthday Robert

It was amazing to wake up this morning and not have to get up and drive anywhere. It truly is great to be home. For some reason Mom likes to leave her car parked on my back lawn when she goes back up ...

Home sweet home

We left Bangor nice and early this morning, but got slowed down by some dumb traveling decisions. My brain sort of gave out on me today. I wasn't sure how to get on the 9 highway to Calais (to cross a...
