About Me

I am a writer of books, magazine and newspaper articles, and other stuff (including poetry, though I haven't written a good poem for years, and TV scripts, working on a good one currently, very hush-hush). My latest book, published in the UK in August 2007, but about to come out in the US in February 2008, is W.A.R. - The Unauthorised Biography of W. Axl Rose. Axl's story does not have a happy beginning or ending, which of course only made it a more enthralling journey for me to make as an author. The fact that he one wrote about me negatively in the song 'Get In The Ring' is about as relevant as the fact that, prior to that, he gave me a gold record for the album GN'R Lies. The book is not about either of those things. It's about Axl.Some of you whose memories are now longer than your hair may also remember me from Kerrang! magazine in the 1980s, others from Classic Rock, where I was a founding editor (1998-2004) and who I now write for as a freelancer. Also, Mojo, Guitar World, Music Week, the Mail On Sunday and numerous other pitstops. My next book and the one I am writing now is going to be the first literary biography of Led Zeppelin. I'm reluctant to say more about it now because I want it to have impact when it's published in October this year, but my feeling is it will be the most important book I've ever written. And no, it's got nothing to do with their recent reformation. This is something I've been researching seriously for over two years.I no longer present my own weekend shows on the digital radio station Planet Rock, having had to give it up recently due to family commitments. I'm hoping to be able to return one day but it's not high on my agenda - not for now anyway.Naturally I have a website too - www.mickwall.com - which badly needs updating, as it is currently built around a book I self-published in 2006 called Star Trippin', a best-of collection of my stuff from Kerrang! in the 1980s. The site does feature my blog, though, which is kept up-to-date and that some of you seem to find interesting. (Not the tone of false modesty there.)And of course there is this MySpace page, too, which I don't take seriously enough but will be making more of an effort to make a more true reflection of who I actually am at some point this year. For now though, I prefer to look at the profile pics of attractive women that I do guys with whispy beards all wanting you to hear their demos.Meanwhile, my best book remains Paranoid, which came out in 1999 and is SEMI-FICTION, whatever anyone likes to believe. Trust me, I'm much worse than that in real life. One day, I intend to write more books like that, which no one will understand either. Till then...

Back home for the weekend. Feels good. Noisy as hell, but good. The kids are making up for lost time and have given me no peace whatsoever since I set foot through the door. "It's not like this when y...

Everything slowly getting back to so-called normal. But only just. I don't know if I'm ill or simply mega-tired. Our boy has never been so sick, some hideous ear infection compounded by flu, which has...

No blog for days cos there has been no brain to write it. Everyone sick, everyone ill, atomic bugs everywhere. Feel like we're living on the edge of hell. No, not the edge, the fucking centre. And no,...

Spent the afternoon back working on Zep. It's been a few weeks, one way or another, so I had to begin by reading back what I've already done. Inevitably, that meant rewriting and sprucing up, as it al...
