Influences: Timeless. There’s no other word better describing the music coming from this Swedish four-piece. Having grown up on bearded swamp blues (ZZ TOP, LYNYRD SKYNYRD), glam flamboyance (KISS, DAVID BOWIE, ALICE COOPER, T-REX) and menace riffing (AC/DC, BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE) there’s not a doubt in the world that CHILLIHOUNDS learned the swagger of rock’n’roll in the best of ways. Forming in Gothenburg in 2003 the band take its time perfecting their retrospective groove seldom heard this side of the seventies. In 2005 all the pieces of the puzzle seem to match as CHILLIHOUNDS, now consisting of Gabriel Aadland (Vocals, guitar), Daniel Hessel (lead guitar), Carl Linnaeus (bass - ex-RICKSHAW, ex-ABANDON, LUCYFIRE) and Stefan Johansson (drums), records the demo “No Fashion, Just Rock’n’Roll”. The recording includes highlights such as “1975” and “Dancing Devils” and earns the band – along with their sweat drenched performances – a reputation among independent labels. Italian company Nicotine Records releases “The Album” in April of 2007. It is a ten track onslaught of furious licks and unforgettable melodies. A mere four months later the first pressing is sold out, much thanks to the overwhelming critical acclaim “The Album” receives from press around the world. Sweden Rock Magazine awards “The Album” 9 out of 10 points – “If there’s any justice in the world, CHILLIHOUNDS ought to be an international hit”. Web zine Agony Zone states: “CHILLIHOUNDS performs as if their life depend upon it”. German magazine OX gives “The Album” 7 out of 10 – “Finally a singer who can sing, instead of sounding just like a V8 engine”. And so on. CHILLIHOUNDS follows up their sold out release party (with Adde and Martin from HARDCORE SUPERSTAR acting as DJ’s) with plenty of gigs. The band hits the clubs and also appears at festivals, opening up for MUSTASCH in the north of Sweden. A trip to the south of Italy is also booked. In the meantime, CHILLIHOUNDS parts way with Daniel Hessel and recruits Eric Bogren in his place. The group enters the rehersal studio, heavily determined to fine tune their post modern sound. A batch of hook-ridden tunes celebrating the invincibility of rock’n’roll is soon caught on tape. CHILLIHOUNDS makes no bones about their burning love for energetic classic hard rock and is now often compared to similar act CLUTCH. CHILLIHOUNDS has put the passion back in rock’n’roll. “They don’t make them like they used to”, people have a tendency to say. Until now, that is.
