ARTISTINFORMATION:
Anyone who is interested in house and techno in Berlin cannot avoid catching Wimpy in one of the German capital’s many clubs. He caught the house bug in 1989 in New York and already at the beginning of the last decade before the millennium he was not to be missed in Berlin as DJ, booker and event organizer.
Thus he became co-founder, DJ and booker in the legendary clubs Subversiv and Electric Ballroom, and since 1993 found himself as resident DJ in Tresor Club, playing the last record at the closing moments of this legendary Berlin club.
Hardly a club in Berlin has missed the chance to book his sets. For the last four years he has initiated the successful Woitek&Leyk nights: a party in which he is one-half of a DJ team that, after the closing of Tresor, was scheduled regularly in Club Raumklang Berlin, but now is back at the new Tresor Club .
Also national and international targets heralded his name and soon he began touring often through Japan, Spain and Russia.
Naturally he followed with production work, through which he began to enter the charts. Right after the first release by his project Revolver Jesus , the track found itself on the “Green and Blue†compilation licensed on Cocoon, and further tracks and remixes followed.
Whether as DJ or producer, the name Wimpy represents a distinct and original sound that, even if it always remains modern and with a contemporary pulse, never hangs on to any trends.
His sets are stable, treading and tightly woven, take the club dancer on a voyage, and are able to tell stories without losing sight of the musical target. And if his productions sometimes reflect a darker side, they still retain a certain pop appeal.
