Silkapone can not be defined as a Rapper or Singer; his blend of Conscious Hip Hop & Soulful R&B truly sets him apart from some of the more 'predictable acts' in the game right now.In 1997 he formed Regulate Records with his two best friends, Rapper; Kut and Producer; Rattlesnake.
By 1999 they had released their first underground single 'Leave Him'.
The following years saw more artists join the label and this brought more releases, including the labels new R&B star JL and his single 'Dance with me', SilkKut's 2nd single 'Slide' and their debut album 'The Kuiet Storm'.By this time at the age of 18 Silk carried on working with and developing more unsigned urban artists, toured colleges and universities and performed with Rattlesnake at the Fairfield Halls Croydon for Choice FM and Sony's Urban talent show case; 'Rapology 2001'.Despite numerous opportunities to sign with major's Silkapone maintained that he could not keep his artistic freedom if someone was 'pulling his strings', and therefore avoided record deals for most of his 7 years making music.2004 saw the first real solo release for Silk or by this time 'Silkapone' a single called 'Who to Be', which featured two versions of the title track and one of his most defining tracks to date the Rattlesnake produced 'Urban banger' Tiger Tiger.In 2005 Silk released a mix CD like nothing the streets had ever heard before; 'The Seven Deadly Sin's Mixtape Vol.1'. Each track defined and discussed the legendary sin's relating them to modern day urban struggles, world politics and the first real insight in to the mind and life of the artist himself.Earlier this year Silk released the sequel to his first mixtape; ‘The Tiger Prince Mixtape Vol.2. This has proven to be by far Regulates’ most popular releases yet, with street anthems like: ‘London city hustla’s’ and ‘Whats Beef’.
Silkapone’s conscious style could also be seen once again in tracks like; ‘The Struggle’ and ‘Mamma’.Now in 2007 Silk and his long time confederate Rattlesnake are about to showcase the 'Regulate Family'. All 7 of Regulate Record's current artist's all backed by original Rattlesnake beats, re-visiting some classic sounds and premiering some new ones.Mid 2007 will also see the release of Silkapones long awaited 4th CD. With production from up and coming UK producers; Voice, Unique and of course family members; Rattlesnake & Hash.Who knows what the future holds for Silkapone, like he says himself:"Some of the youngen's these days don't wanna hear about the politics i'm chattin or some of the deep issues that effect our communities, maybe my music's a little too real for dem.""i can't control what people think of me and every one has a right to choose, i just wanna do right by the lord almighty and try and make a difference as long as i have this chance."
