DEEP IN THE NINTH

ASK ME HOW SHE IS...I'LL SAY SHE'S TWISTED...

About Me

Singer/songwriter Michael Williams aka "Willis" has been playing in bands and recording records for over 15 years. Earlier experiences introduced him to the life of a musician with all of its breakups, breakdowns, twists and turns. After having dedicated over 5 years to playing bass in a rock band just outside of Toronto whom shared the stage with the likes of The Tea Party, Big Sugar, The Headstones and The Watchmen to name a few, Williams made a move to Toronto and started on the path of a becoming songwriter. For the past 10 years Williams has been patiently honing his craft as a writer and guitar man recording and performing live as both a solo acoustic act and for the last few years fronting for a "Gothic Country" outfit that goes by the name "DEEP IN THE NINTH". The same time Williams made his move from smalltown Ontario to the city he also started visiting a little old place we all know as New Orleans. With every passing year his trips down south became more frequent and for longer periods of time. Much like in Toronto, Williams built a nest in amongst an artistic community, deep in the ninth ward of New Orleans. To date Williams has played guitar, bass, and sang on quite a few records of which the last three featured his own songwriting. Depending on the time and location, whether it is recording in the states, touring across countries, or gigging in Toronto, Deep In The Ninth have a wide community of musicians, producers and people who love the songs and want to express themselves and their very own special talents through the music. A few noteables for the progression of Deep In The Ninth have been lead guitarist James MacGregor. A graduate of Mohawks Jazz Program, currently teaching guitar and playing with a couple other bands, James also plays the mandolin , pedal steel and a pretty mean slide guitar. Producer and engineer extrordinaire, Marc Bingham, whoms resume includes working with such greats as Roy Orbinson, R.E.M. and Gram Parsons. Marcs work on the 2002 EP "Deep In The Ninth" introduced Williams to a world of southern musicians whom during the course of writing and recording imbibed Williams with some of the sacred laws of country soul. Now back in Toronto after a very strange and difficult stay in the south, Williams and Deep In The Ninth, much like the gulf coast states, are rebuilding bigger, badder and stronger then ever!!!
