About Me
In an era where bands act way too cool and write mindless songs that sound so predictable, it’s time for something new and different. â€Most bands wear their influences on their sleeves. They look and sound so retro and play it off as being original and hip,†Joie adds, “In this band, we can’t or won’t do it.†Dead Blonde Girlfriend is a band that lives for the moment while not getting lost in it; they reflect upon the past but don’t live in it. Poetic songs about rise, fall, and redemption are what Dead Blonde Girlfriend’s songs are about. Many emotional themes are felt through out the songs as they mood swing you from a full on barrage of sound to an unexpected silence that will leave you speechless. Honest, confessional, vulnerable, and introspective lyrics are mixed with a little sadness and the hope of trying to understand the cruel and insane beauty of life and everything that goes with it. “To me lyrics are so important to a song. I want these songs to be seen more as a voice in the void we call pop culture, words and feelings you can identify and sing along with," explains Joie. One listen to the songs of Dead Blonde Girlfriend, and you will never look at music the same way again.
Press quotes
"About as punk as you can get, essentially smart pop, yet his unsentimental worldview, lyrical and performance honesty are quintessentially punk – which he somehow makes refreshing."
Pasadena Weekly
"Joie Blaney's punk folk anthems of heartbreak and redemption
embody the emboldened approach of antifolk and the unflinching
honesty that is its ethos. Clad in black leather leather and armed with
fierce hooks and heart-on-sleeve tales, Blaney sings of "looking for the
answers to the questions never heard."
Grammy Magazine
"Joie Blaney, of the band Dead Blonde Girlfriend, had a sensitive lyric touch that belied his punk-rock look and attack. With something of Paul Westerbergs heart-on-sleeve rock swagger, Mr. Blaney also had a stage presence that is rare."
New York Times
