The story of Omar is in fact quite short. The band sprung from an earlier constellation called Kama Sutra, consisting of the same members but with a different musical direction. After several years of playing together and with a number of recordings as well as shows behind them - among others supporting stoner legend Brant Bjork and the Bros and Danko Jones, an appearance at the one week festival Malmöfestivalen and a visit to Copenhagen’s classical punk venue Ungdomshuset - the band decided to reform in late 2006.
Most part of 2007 has been dedicated to write and record Omar's debut album "I am heavy metal - who are you?". The recording was led by good friend and experienced sound engineer PÃ¥l Callmer who helped the band not only with the recording, but also with making the members go an extra mile in their efforts to record a damn good album. His way of consistently trying to get the most out of every piece recorded proved to be a valuable contribution to the result. Divided on two occasions the band spent over three months of recording and mixing, which finally resulted in fourteen songs. Twelve of them were cleared for Omar's debut.
The band is managed by Jonas Nilsson, vice president of Swedish independent label Bad Taste Records. His main focus at the moment lies in landing a license deal for a forthcoming full length album. The band has - with an exception of a decent mastering session - already put their final touch to the product in terms of the recording as well as the visual design of the album cover. What remains is to find the right label to release the album.
That's all there is to it.
