In 2001 Chris Sholar graduated William Paterson University with a degree in music. That year he joined the band of rapper Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) as his guitarist. It was during this period that Q-tip gave Chris a tape of producer J-Dilla (Slum Village) beats. Chris remembers "that was the day I became a producer". He continued to play guitar for Q-Tip while perfecting his skill as a budding producer. In 2003 he caught the attention of Jus Blaze with his ability to replay any sampled recording. With Jus Blaze he began co-writing and playing guitar on albums by Mariah Carey (featuring Jay-Z), Snoop Dogg, and Freeway. In 2004 Chris met producer Rodney Jerkins and gave him a beat Cd, within a month Rodney flew Chris out to Beverly Hills CA and offered him a deal with Darkchild. During this period Chris produced "Be Country" for rapper Petey Pablo. In 2005 Chris focused his attention on Europe and produced the first single "Zu Elektrisch" for Max Herre. The album was #1 on the Billboard charts. He went on to produce for other international artist Joy Denalane, Afrob, Lisi and Massive Tone that year. In 2006 Chris collaborated with Ne-Yo and produced the first single "Put it in a Letter" for Mic Little (Def Jam). The year 2007 is already proving to be a successful start for Chris, He is currently working with Dr. Dre (Aftermath).Here are a list of artist that Chris Sholar has produced/worked as guitarist:
