About Me

Haak-MacNab (HM) is a Seattle-based Euro-American rock duo of drums and strings. German Megatar player Dino Haak, the strings, and Virginia-native Doc MacNab, the drums. There may be only two of them, but according to Discmakers, the sound is “like a herd of wild elephants coming right at you.” You won’t find sampling or any pre-recorded music in their performances.
Mostly known for its tight, groove-heavy, hooky songwriting, HM music explores the progressive possibilities of rock, funk and jazz. The sound of the Megatar—a 12 string combo of guitar and bass strings—adds a powerful, almost eerily symphonic element to the music. HM has a progressive influence, yet the songs stay short, funky, and rely on groove.
After a show—somewhere—someone in the audience described the music as the lovechild of System of a Down, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, King Crimson, and George Clinton. Funky, power-grooves featuring tight, feel-dash hooks with a symphonic kick.
Dino Haak and Doc MacNab came together in January 2006. Currently writing and showcasing material for their upcoming CD, HM continue to play the songs of Kevorkian Cannibals, Instant Guru, and FATHER, all bands for which Haak was front-man and the main song-writing force.
Haak MacNab is performing shows with a third, honorary band member: Seattle legend, Artis the Spoonman. Artis has previously performed with Soundgarden, Frank Zappa, Aerosmith, and Audioslave, among many other amazing artists.
The song, Live from Beijing was second-runner-up as theme song for the 1997 NFL Playoffs. We just had to throw that in there. Go Hawks!
