About Me

“Everyone has loved and been loved for a while. We lie about this and pretend it was otherwise. We want some other love than the one we had, some other history. But we have loved and been loved.” Harold Brodkey.I have borrowed the above quotation from Barry Humphries’ preface to the appropriately named concluding chapter, ‘Dusk’, from his incomparably honest autobiography My Life as Me: A Memoir. Why?Well, I’m not going to explain – just read it a few times and let its meaning sink in. All I’ll say is that you can’t change your history, as I have found to my detriment. What has happened has happened. What has been has been. There’s no going back – the only place to go is forward. And at this precise moment in my life, that journey fills me with an unbridled pleasure that I’ve not felt before. There are a myriad of reasons why. Until recently I was employed as the Marketing Manager for GAY.COM in the UK – I am now unemployed, as is the rest of the UK office. The sword of Damocles had been swinging ominously over our heads for a while and when the blow came it was short, sharp and decisive.I’d always thought that a swift death would be preferable to a long drawn out illness and so far my reasoning has proved to be correct. New horizons and new opportunities beckon and I’m sure they’ll be realised before the redundancy money dissipates into the ether. Fingers crossed!Exciting times lie ahead. If I didn’t have clarity at the moment, then the future would be as impenetrable as much of my past has been. Let’s just say the fog is clearing and leave it at that.So there you go – food for thought maybe?

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Under construction

Music:

Started liking show tunes (but only quality, vintage ones). Classical music and opera are my main joys along with the human voice (although my favourite singer Lorraine Hunt Lieberson just died of cancer which was very distressing). Dame Anne Evans is my all time favourite opera singer - but she retired three years ago. Is there a worrying pattern emerging here?

Movies:

Shortbus, Happiness, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, TransAmerica, Hotel New Hampshire, High Heels. The list is endless (that's not a film - merely a statement).

Television:
