Music...I've played in six bands. I kind of play guitar. I write pretty good songs. I love watching live bands, but because of school and work I haven't been out as much as I'd like.
School...I'm back after an 18-year hiatus. I'm learning about things I've taken for granted my whole life: rocks, insects, outer space, the question of the existence of God, and our political system. I'm studying to be a teacher, so I guess it's about damn time I start thinking about these things.
Writing...I've written two novels. One is a hack-job Harlequin-type romance and the other is a really good, solid, funny young adult novel. Neither has been published; the first was on the verge and I dropped the ball; I just finished the second one this summer and haven't shopped it around yet.
Crafts...I used to sniff at crafty folks. Probably because I dated a really pretentious artist back in my college days and he sort of instilled a snobbery in me that took me a long time to kill. But I love crafty stuff! I make rings out of wire and I do mosaics with tile and I build stuff out of things and make things out of stuff. And I'm not ashamed!

This song is part of a project I did for my educational technology class last semester. High school students in China wrote lyrics and I put music to them.
Credits: lyrics by anonymous Chinese student. Music & vocals by Kristen Bailey. Recorded & Mixed by Mark Wolberg. Guitar-Mark Wolberg. Drums-Courtney Nore. Bass-Patrick Bradley.

Holy bejeebers. I like a bit of everything. I'm not a big fan of rap (although I love Public Enemy and Gil Scott Heron) and I'm not a big fan of metal (but I like watching it live). I love punk (pre-1985) and country (pre-1970 and some post, but nothing like what's on commercial radio these days). I like indie music but I'm sort of out of the loop where that's concerned. My itunes collection ranges from Elvis to The Dead Kennedys and from Gordon Lightfoot to The Shaggs.
Yikes! I love Hollywood blockbuster action movies. The more plane crashes, explosions and chases the better. I also like the quiet, cerebral indie movies. My tastes change with my mood. My guilty pleasures? Die Hard With A Vengeance, Oceans 11, and Men In Black.
I don't watch TV. I don't have cable and I don't even get the local channels that show M*A*S*H at 10 and Seinfeld at 10:30. I have a DVD player, though. So far, the TV shows I've rented are:
24 (only the first season; it gives me panic attacks.)
Weeds
Veronica Mars
The Dog Whisperer
Dead Like Me
I don't have much time to read, but this summer I read a ton of books my boyfriend's 12-year-old daughter left lying around. That's when I wrote my own young adult novel. "Hoot" was one of my favorites. I hear it's a movie now! The last book I read was "Buffalo for the Broken Heart" by Dan O'Brien, a non-fiction job about a South Dakota rancher who converts from cattle to bison. Sound boring? You'd be really, really surprised. I was. It was fantastic. Other favorites are "My Year Of Meats" by Ruth Ozeki and "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold.
You're my hero!
