"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
Romans 12:2
Lost Conformity, formed in June 2004, packs a catalog of interesting, original material. Taking their influence from bands such as Coldplay, Switchfoot, and U2, and labeling themselves under the “Brit pop / rock†genre, the four guys in this Christian band have come a long way from where they were just a couple of short years ago.
“I met Nick (Saviano), our drummer, on the baseball team at Olivet College and we started jamming,†says Zack Langford, who plays the guitar. “He introduced me to Matt Keffer (vocals) and Evan Kessik (bass), and before we knew it, we were playing a gig at the Eclipse in Buchanan, Michigan.â€
Before that time, it seemed unlikely that such a combination of guys could pull a band together. After all, Saviano had little experience with music, and he and Langford were devoting most of their time to baseball. Kessik, meanwhile, had never picked up a bass in his life. But what they lacked in experience, they made up for in passion and drive, and soon the band was playing gigs weekend after weekend and gaining a growing following in their hometown of Niles, Michigan.
As their talent progressed, so did their vision for ministry.
“Spirituality is a major part of our band,†explains Langford. “Our band prays together and works together to grow closer to God. We don’t want to get caught up in the glamour that comes along with performing music; we strive to serve God first, and He reciprocates that love tenfold by blessing us with music.â€
Every time they get on stage, they find more opportunities to use those blessings to minister to others. “We write songs that reach out to people,†says Keffer, lead singer, who explains that his passion for people who struggle with everyday situations and want more out of life is what drives him to keep singing, keep writing.
And that’s just what Lost Conformity plans to do. “We let God lead us to our calling, so we will take advantage of this opportunity to make music for God to its fullest, and we’ll thank Him every day for it,†says Langford.
Lost Conformity recently joined forces with producer C.R. Pendleton, who currently produces Christian recording artist John Reuban, to re-release “I Need You,†originally recorded on their 2005 EP “Filling the Cracks.â€
Drummer Nick Saviano loved the experience. “C.R. was phenomenal. He was really professional and creative, and we learned a lot.†The band plans to continue working with Pendleton to record new music.
So with a new EP in the works and a move to Columbus in the near future, Lost Conformity looks forward to new opportunities to serve God and play music with a message.
What is that message?
According to Langford, “God is real. He sees you and knows your desperation. If you strive to find His love, He will show it to you, and you will grow to become a person that you never believed you could be. God is truth, so strive to learn about Him, and you will find truth!â€
