If you trust in yourself...and believe in your dreams...and follow your star...you'll still get beat

About Me

I'm a singer, songwriter and musician, an agent(-ish), promoter and events organiser, a mother of a beautiful one year old boy and imminent twins, due the end of this year...I'm older than I care to admit but glad I have something to show for it...I'm a sucker for truth and romance, and am dedicated to discovering whether the two can genuinely co-exist...

My Interests

Music, films, playing with my little boy and listening to him laugh, writing songs, ancient history, saving the world or at least trying to make it a better place, beachy head, understanding people, cooking, sewing, knitting, walking my dogs...just finding comfort in the simple things in life.

I'd like to meet:

Musicians and writers, comedians, actors, artists and creative people in general, fans of 80's girl pop, yummy slummy mummies, people who want to make a difference and anyone interesting or who is giving something away for free...

Music:

Bands and artists include The Cure, Cyndi Lauper, Thea Gilmore, Suede, The Levellers, Snow Patrol, Johnny Cash, Kirsty MacColl, Muse, Ann Peebles, The Editors, Keane, Afro Celt Sound System, Eliza Carthy, Winter, Tom Russell, The Cranes, Tori Amos, Kristen Hersh, Nina Simone, Medieval Baebes, lots of folk, antifolk, classical, americana, bluegrass, jazz and so on...

Movies:

Anything that helps me escape the banality of everyday life, most things with Johnny Depp (he who can do no wrong), 80's bratpack and Michael J Fox movies, Labyrinth, things involving Tim Burton and/or Danny Elfman, Lord Of The Rings trilogy...nothing groundbreaking here I'm afraid...vampires, Harold and Maude, Garden State, Me Without You, Starstruck...

Television:

Not a lot...The Simpsons, Doctor Who, QI, Jamie Oliver saving the nation, Gordon Ramsey swearing at it and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall showing how much of it can be eaten, reality shows featuring people who make me feel superior, Extras, Scrubs, stuff on BBC 3 and 4...

Books:

Terry Pratchett, Maggie O' Farrell, Stephen Fry, Tony Hawks, Joanne Harris, The Moomins, and the sort of rubbish novels that don't require more than 0.2% of my brain power at any one time (as that's all I have left going spare)...

Heroes:

Cyndi Lauper, Kirsty MacColl, Stephen Fry, Mark Thomas, Robert Newman...I still hope to find some really...

Held hostage...by tiny people and a spider...

Hmmm.  So, as avid readers of this intermittent blog will be aware, I have a none too insignificant phobia of spiders.  This is reasonably manageable at this time of year, as thankfully the ...

It's been a while, and just look what's happened...

Well, it's been a little while, and no mistake. For those not already in the know, my beautiful twin boys were born just before Christmas, hence the noticeable absence of my presence from these hallow...

My housework handicap.

The next time you think 'Oh bugger, I've got to do the washing up, what a pain in the a*se', here's my top tip.  Insert a fully inflated football up your shirt and secure it firmly around yo...

An antidote to apathy

Whilst driving through the town centre on Wednesday evening I saw a type of Police van that I have hitherto never encountered before.  It may of course be just as common as any other kind of...

A Question of Sport

Even though this is my second time around the block, I had never realised until very recently that pregnancy is a competitive sport.  I'm aware that amongst certain groups of broody women th...

Utter shellfish-ness...

I discovered yesterday that I appear to have been suffering from a previously undiagnosed phobia since I was just a wee lass.  I would consider myself a reasonably sensible and rational pers...

Brand new space...ooohh, the excitement...

Four years ago whilst on tour I attempted to walk through a doorway in a pub in Hull and missed.  The ensuing impact between myself and the wall resulted in two broken toes in the middle of my le...
