Toute la jeunesse africaine francophone s’agite désormais au son du coupé-décalé, une rythmique électronique ivoirienne irrésistible. En Afrique lusophone, dans un genre très proche, c’est le kuduro angolais qui triomphe(dont le nom se traduit très prosaïquement par «postérieur endurci» à force de mouvements frénétiques). Capverdien de Paris, Izé réconcilie les deux rythmes et baptise le fruit de leurs amours «kunana» (prononcer «Kou», comme dans «coupé» ou dans «kuduro», «nana»), une manière détournée d’avouer ce que ce nouveau style doit également au funana et au batuque de son «petit pays».
Né au Cap-Vert quelques années avant l’Indépendance, Izé atterrit à Paris à l’âge de neuf ans. Il n’oubliera pourtant jamais son île natale, même s’il passe son adolescence dans les cités de Boissy Saint Léger à s’enflammer pour le hip hop.
Izé fait sa première apparition discographique sur l’album «Le calibre qu’il te faut» de son ami Stomy Bugsy, précisément sur le titre «Olélélé», premier hommage au patrimoine capverdien. C’est en juin 2000 que l’aventure démarre vraiment pour lui, avec la sortie d’un premier maxi intitulé «Ma Volonté» featuring Jacky des Neg’Marrons et JP des 2 Doigts. Quelques mois plus tard, Lusafrica, le label de Cesaria Evora, commercialise «Double nationalité», un premier album qui réunit un grand nombre d’invités car, pour Izé, la musique est avant tout une histoire de famille. Il est suivi en 2003 de «Mobilizé», deuxième album mieux maîtrisé, qui a autant de succès à Lisbonne qu’à Paris.
Peut-être est-ce l’exemple d’Izé, qui, le premier, a lancé des passerelles entre rap d’ici et musiques du Cap-Vert, peut-être est-ce leurs voyages là-bas, irréguliers d’abord puis de plus en plus fréquents, peut-être, enfin, est-ce simplement une forme de maturité… Toujours est-il que l’envie de former un groupe de rap qui s’appuierait sur des rythmes capverdiens a été de plus en plus forte chez trois amis d’Izé : Stomy Bugsy, Jacky Brown (Nèg’Marrons) et JP. Ce groupe prend le nom de La MC Malcriado et son premier album, «Nos pobreza ké nos rikeza», porté par un duo avec Mayra Andrade, «Mas amor», reçoit un accueil triomphal à Praia.
Izé ne s’arrête pas en si bon chemin et élabore alors en secret « Kunana spirit », une collection de titres qui s’écartent définitivement des rythmes du rap tels qu’ils ont été conçus aux Etats-Unis pour embrasser ceux qui font vibrer les jeunes Africains. Le résultat est un disque afro-futuriste torride, une implacable invitation à la danse et, surtout, le début d’une nouvelle aventure pour Izé et tous ses complices (Ano Fela, Omrane, Top1, JP, Zé Mario, …).

All French-speaking African youth is agitated from now on with the sound of half-compartment-shifted, a rhythmic electronics of the Ivory Coast irresistible. In Portuguese-speaking Africa, in a very close kind, it is the Angolan kuduro (of which the name results very prosaically in "posterior hardened") through frantic movements which triumphs. French-capverdian of Paris, Izé reconciles the two rates/rhythms and baptizes the fruit of their loves "kunana" (to pronounce "Kou"... as in "half-compartment" or "kuduro"... "chick"), a manner diverted to acknowledge what this new style also owes with the funana and with batuque of its "small country". Born in Cape Verde a few years before Independence, Izé lands in Paris at the nine years age. It will however forget never its native island, even if it passes its adolescence in the cities of Boissy Saint Leger to be ignited for the hip hop. Izé makes its first appearance discographic on the album "the gauge that it is necessary for you" of his friend Stomy Bugsy, precisely on the title "Olélélé", first homage to the inheritance capverdian. It is in June 2000 that the adventure really starts for him, with the exit of a first maximum heading "My Will" featuring Jacky of Neg' Marrons and JP of the 2 Fingers. A few months later, Lusafrica, the label of Cesaria Evora, markets "dual nationality", a first album which joins together a great number of guests because, for Izé, the music is before a a whole history of family. It is followed into 2003 of "Mobilizé", second album better controlled, which has as many success in Lisbon in Paris. Perhaps this is the example of Izé, which, the first, launched footbridges between rap from here and musics of Cape Verde... Perhaps this is their voyages over there, irregular initially then increasingly frequent... Perhaps, finally, this is simply a form of maturity... Always it is that the desire for forming a group of rap which would be based on rates/rhythms capverdians was increasingly strong in three friends of Izé: Stomy Bugsy, Jacky Brown (Neg'Marrons) and JP. This group takes the name of MC Malcriado and its first album, "Nos pobréza ké nos rikéza", carried by a duet with Mayra Andrade, "Farmhouse amor", receives a triumphal reception with Praia. Izé does not stop in so good way and works out then in secrecy "Kunana spirit", a collection of titles which deviate definitively from the rates/rhythms of the rap such as they were designed in the United States to embrace those which make vibrate the young Africans. The result is a torrid afro-futuristic disc, a relentless invitation with the dance and, especially, the beginning of a new adventure for Izé and all its accomplices (Ano Fela, Omrane, Top1, JP, Zé Mario...).
