About Me

This music project born around 1995 from the minds of Ricardo S. and Joao Gata in Lisbon, Portugal. The project evolved from a pure electronic sound back in the 80s to what can now be heard. This final formation evolved from an initial project by the name Amenti, with Ricardo S, Fernando Cruz, Joao Gata and Teresa Salgueiro, the later now part of the very successful Portuguese band Madre de Deus. The sound at the time was very much the likes of Clan of Ximox and Co. and much of the dislikes of record company's in Portugal. So, as expected things stopped for a few years… The action was resumed when Ricardo S. proposed another reincarnation of the project to Joao Gata and The Quinto Imperio - V Imperio - was born in a spare Joao's room with only a couple of synth and a low end computer. Much work, hours, arguments, rants and sweat was involved in the creation of this. Ana Quintans was the original voice of this project, helping to push this project forward , and many of her vocal lines can still be heard on the final vocal performance that went to record. She left after a year of hard work to pursue other life ambitions. After a tremendous endevour to find a voice, Isis was chosen to fill the gap left by Ana, helping to shape the V Imperio final sound. Many more hours and late nights were spend polishing things, so that they could be played by “real” performers for the recording sessions. After that, more work had to be done so that we could play live with a strings quartet. Nuno Rodrigues (ex Rodrigo Leao, Vox Ensemble and Sons do Vento) - oboe and english horn - had a major part in making it possible, sharing his enthusiasm to the other ex members of Vox Ensemble. The band performed live in several occasions in Spain and Portugal, with the help of a strings quartet and oboe. For some unknown reasons, the band never managed to sustain a flow of live performances, that would have kept the project alive. The situation at their country of origin was bad to worst - musically speaking. The stress that emerged from this killed all the efforts to keep it going. So, here it is. There's no good reason for the abrupt end, apart from the fact that no one else gave a damn...
