About Me

..This profile was edited with MyEditor V1.0

It's funny -- I consider myself to be a fairly self-absorbed person, yet I always have trouble writing biographical essays. It's midnight, and I can't think of anything stunning right now; I suppose I'll just have to satisfy myself with this:

I'm a 28-year-old New Hampshire native. We (my husband and I,) bought a house in Dover in the summer of '04, and it really strikes me as funny -- I was just like every other kid in my hometown, hanging out on the streetcorner, making plans to get the hell out of here and never come back, only to get out, see the world, and then settle down a mere 15 miles away. Like a migrating bird, you know?

Right now, I'm at a pretty massive crossroads in my life. I'm a singer with 12 years of training who doesn't sing, an artist who doens't have time to draw, and a Fine Arts and Archaeology double-major who's not even in school right now 'cos she doesn't have the money to work on her degree. I'm working as a Starbucks barista at the moment, and enjoying my job, but at some point I need to get off my backside and get back to school.

My Interests

Books/reading (especially Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde, and Laurell K. Hamilton); the poetry of Pablo Neruda, e e cummings, Carl Sandburg, and Don Marquis; coffee; Moxie; tattoos/being tattooed (I have four and counting); piercing and being pierced (I have several); spending time with my family and friends; cooking. I love to sing, and have won awards at various competitions, as well as performed in various stage shows. Anyone want to form a classic jazz vocal/punk fusion band? Why does nobody else think that's a good idea? I also dabble in writing, drawing, painting, and knitting, and am always looking for ways to expand and improve my art.

I'd like to meet:

People who have something to say, and aren't afraid to talk about it. We don't have to have similar interests; you don't necessarily have to like what I do, just respect that I enjoy what I do, and I'll respect your tastes in turn. And who knows? Maybe we'll wind up learning something from one another.

I also would like to meet people in the Seacoast New Hampshire and/or Southern Maine area to get togther and form a punk rock/jazz fusion band. No, I am not kidding.

Music:

Got a few hours? This list is kinda long.

Danko Jones, Lady Sovereign, Cibo Matto, Dan Bern, Emma Shapplin, Freakwater, Tommy Makem, The Clancy Brothers, The Dubliners, King Memphis, Maggie Estep, Mazzy Star, Ottmar Liebert, Youth Gone Mad, PJ Harvey, They Might Be Giants, Tori Amos, Crass, LES Stitches, The Dead Milkmen, Nat King Cole, Cyndi Lauper, James Taylor, Blood for Blood, Iggy Pop, Norah Jones, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Jane's Addiction, Billie Holiday, Billy Idol, Go Sailor, Ani Di Franco, Tattle Tale, Cecilia Bartoli, Bryn Terfel, Peter Gabriel, The Varukers, The Macc Lads, Dan Bern, Bjork, The Cadillac Hitmen, David Bowie, Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, Kate Bush, G. Love and Special Sauce, Nine Inch Nails, Leonard Cohen, Hank Williams Sr., Nick Drake, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, System of a Down, Strawberry Switchblade, Tenacious D, The Guts, Wally Pleasant, the White Stripes, Ween, Voltaire, The Pogues, The Pixies, Prince, The Donnas, Dropkick Murphys, The Exploited, The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, and many, many, many more.

I'm also a sucker for cheesy love songs and 80's New Wave. And I really should stop now, or I'll keep listing music 'til your ears bleed and you beg me to stop.

Movies:

Lost in Translation, Ghost World, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Secret of NIMH, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Plan 9 From Outer Space, The Joy Luck Club, The Matchmaker, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the original three Star Wars flicks...

...I'll probably add more to this list as I think of it.

Television:

Iron Chef, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mythbusters, Junkyard Wars, Samurai Jack, Monster House, Trading Spaces, 30 Minute Meals, Unwrapped, and pretty much anything on the History Channel and Adult Swim on Cartoon Network.

Books:

The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett; the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton; "Winnie the Pooh", "The House at Pooh Corner", and the poetry of A.A. Milne; the works of JRR Tolkein; "The Captains Verses" by Pablo Neruda; "archy and mehitabel" by Don Marquis; "Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame; pretty much anything by Charles De Lint; Anne McCaffery's "Pern" books, the Harry Potter books, the "Tuesday Next" series by Jasper Fforde, "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay" by Michael Chabon

...more favorites to be added as I think of them.

Heroes:

My grandfather, who was the greatest man I ever knew. I hope I can live to be as honourable and strong of a person as he was.

Richard Halliburton, an explorer and professional vagabond who travelled all over the world during the 1920's. His books made me aware of the wonder of the world around me, and transported me far away from rural New Hampshire in my mind, long before I could travel elsewhere on my own.

My husbands and my son, each of whom have stirred a depth of love in me that I never knew was possible for me to feel.

My friends -- all of you, and you know who you are. You keep me going, keep me inspired, and keep me entertained. Whenever I'm with you guys, I feel like we can change the world. I love you all.

Ew. Just...Ew.

Life with my dog Pogo is an excercise in patience, to say the very least.  We've had him for about 1-1/2 years now, and we're still actively attempting to potty train him.  Most of the time, he'll hea...

Culture of Life, My Ass.

Please, someone, let me know how the President can say he believes in a "culture of life" when while the governor of Texas, he oversaw the execution of 152 death-row inmates?  Why is the life of Terri...

Way to Kill An Unspecified Craving

It's 2:24 in the morning, I can't sleep, and I'm cursed with an affliction that plagues just about everyone who finds themselves awake at an hour like this: I want a snack. Thing is, I don't want som...

Begorrah! 'Tis the Day-After-The-Day-After St. Patrick's Day!

After Thursday night, I now have a new pet theory: It is theoretically impossible to get drunk in a bar on St. Patrick's if you are only ordering one beer at a time. If I remember correctly from m...
