I am here for Friends

About Me

I fucking hate romantic candlelit dinners & long walks on the beach. Coffee and chitchat makes my skin crawl. I'd rather have my eyelids permanently removed than spend quiet intimate evenings at home.
The Sound of Music makes me want to pull my liver out through my mouth.
If it can't get you killed, then it's not worth doing.
I am a mild-mannered database engineer by day; but whenever there are daring deeds to be done, I don my Magic Mask of Inscrutability and become ZOR, champion of small creatures, relocator of wayward spiders, spoiler of cats, and wearer of cool shoes.

My Interests

Bicycling (mountain & road), canoing, hiking, reading, music, my cat, hidden bungalows, scar art, echoes, the London Review of Books, drunk philosophers (especially my brother). I love animals & ghosts. And breaking the law.

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols (if the name means genetalia, I prolly like 'em), Patti Smith, X, The Clash, The Smiths, Joy Division, The Fall, Concrete Blonde, GIRL, Psalm 69, Nina Simone, Indian Ocean, and lots more

Movies:

Frida, Being John Malkovich, Repo Man, Freaks, Blue Velvet, Rocky Horror, Godzilla vs the Smog Monster (Save the Earth!), all Monty Python

Television:

Meerkat Manor, Orangutan Island

Books:

Shakespeare, Milan Kundera, murder mysteries, Emily Dickinson, Greek mythology

twenty years

Today is the 20th anniversary of my friend David's suicide.  I wonder who he would have been, if he had been.  He was 19 when he died.

riding on a windy night

While I was out riding tonight, the weather changed: the air was soft when I started, but grew sharper as the north wind began blowing increasingly cold, violent gusts.  As I approached a streetl...

The Hidden Bungalows

I love to walk in the evening, just after dark, when the shadows are at their most alluring.  Everything looks a little mysterious in the moonlight, even my casual urban neighborhood.  It's ...
