About Me

Yeah, let's talk about me! Slightly off centre and never quite managing to conform/fit in, I alternate moments of complete seriousness to moments of utter madness and total silliness (I believe the technical term is "talking bollocks") without crossing the psychotic borderline.
I landed on this planet in 1963, the very same year that saw the first woman in space...coincidence?
Italian to the core and very proud of my roots, I moved to England a little more than a decade ago because the language seemed easy to learn (it is) , the climate was hot and dry (it isn't) and its "novelle cuisine" was famous (haha!). Seriously though (and before I upset British citizens).. I do love Great Britain and wouldn't want to live anywhere else... oh, ok, if we could move the UK to a hotter/sunnier place on Earth, perfection would be achieved.
Back to "moi": Quiet and reserved and more likely to be seen with a book,playing/listening to music or navel gazing than dancing in a club, I have a predisposition to sarcasm, which I'm told is the lowest form of wit... ah well, still a form of wit I suppose! Over the years I have developed a weakness for dry and witty humour which thankfully abounds in the UK.
I contradict myself on a daily basis but that's a woman's prerogative, especially if she's suffering from PMT... I seem to be obsessed with cleaning and keeping everything tidy and organised but then again, I'm a Virgo, so don't blame me, blame the position of the planets, stars etc on the day I was born...
In spite of the fact that adulthood hit me between the eyes more than a couple of decades ago, I somehow managed to retain a child-like (what my nephew refers to as "Peter Pan Syndrome) approach towards certain aspect of life so you might catch me riding a trolley (shopping cart) at our local supermarket or trying to do "wheelies"...
Apart from that, I'm "normal"... Whatever that means... ;-)

My Interests

Music: where would I be without it and what would I be without it? I play guitar (both acoustic and electric), bass and I started playing banjo and electric mandolin although I haven't fully mastered them yet (they could at least have the strings in the same places as a guitar!). I listen to a large variety of music (see a small list below) and I get excited like a little kid with a new toy whenever I "discover" a "new" cool band. In the past year, GIRL, Psalm69 and The Love Me Nots all had that effect on me. Books, gotta love them!! Give me a good book and I am happy (biographies, novels based on real life events, erotica, thrillers etc). I feel compelled to read anything with words on them, including the toilet paper's wrapper and the Tampax box(you never know, you can learn something new even from the most unsuspecting sources) but mostly, apart from the above mentioned books, I read magazines (Q, Diva, Mojo, Classic Rock, Focus, The Advocate, New Scientist) and occasionally I read The Guardian and The Times, but only when all my brain cells are working full steam. (can't stand tabloids). Dining out with my girl, that's another thing I enjoy, especially if the food is washed down by a glass or two of a good Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm very quiet and borderline introvert in person but recently a friend of mine told me that I turn into "this ferocious verbal beast in letters, emails and messageboards", so be warned. I like travelling (money and time permitting) and my goal is to spend a couple of months in America. I'm addicted to chocolate, as long as it's not Cadbury's or Hersheys, which should be classed as "poo". Other random things I like: taking long walks on the Italian Alps, riding my mountain bike, sunbathing, pondering about the meaning of life, Ebay, writing letter/emails, playing with our dog, drinking coffee. Things/people I don't like: arrogant cretins, bigotry, hunting, rain, violence, ignorance, people who don't know when to shut up, narrow mindness, arse kissers and oh yeah, people who either talk with their mouth full or make awful noises while eating.

I'd like to meet:

Not sure I want to actually "meet" anybody and I'm not here to collect "friends" (I value friendship way too much for that) but I'd like to talk to like minded people with whom I can have a serious conversation as well as an "off-the-wall" one.
