About Me
Lock-in 2 DJ DRACZ every week on
UK's Finest 87.5fm & on ManicFM.comDracz passion for all things music is what drive him and keeps him focused on what i he wants to achieve! He started dJing back in 1997 after collecting records for a few yrs b4 that.... he knew he would be pushing his sounds on the decks years before he actually got his 1st pair of turntables!
Dracz foundations were built on the breakbeat movement from the early 90's. His musical influences growing up was basically hip-hop and jungle drum n bass...BREAKBEATS!! But what is breakbeat, hip hop and Jungle Drum & Bass?? i like to look at it as a mixing pot of the past 40 years of black music!! Why?? Just use your ears and you will know!! Hip-Hop wasn't just made over night! It’s been evolving ever since our parents were growing up! I’m talking about the soul, funk, jazz, blues, reggae, rock, and the many other music forms that have influenced and created what we know as breakbeat sound! Listen to the funky breaks from james brown in hip hop or the dub reggae bassline in the early jungle movement then u might understand. I wanna give thanx n respect to all the original souljah that supported the jungle sound after the split from hardcore! If it wernt for all them heads comin together then jungle drum and bass wouldn’t be the worldwide success it is today. Who said jungle drum n bass is dead?? Don’t get it twisted!! Just don’t 4get the history and how it is so successful now. Thanx to the culture.. n i’m talking about the vinyl plates, artwork, pirate radio, the raves, the djs n mcs, big up ur ches’!
When i 1st got my pair of turntables i was purely hip hop... i wanted to scratch like q-bert, mix like andy c and be as creative as i can be. How? start by lookin at the turntable as in instrument and not jus a record player then you'll be heading in the right direction! Then start collecting your music on vinyl! Not only does it sound better, looks good but the fact u can touch it and control the output of the music in real-time, that’s what makes us real DJs. Don’t just let your CPU automatically beat match the tunes for u, use your ears and tune them to ‘listen’ and hear the riddms. Next you need to be exploring music, don’t just stick to collecting just 1 style of music. Where you this DJ Shadow got his samples from? Only collecting Hip Hop?? Naaah mate!!!!
Once I got out of the bedroom, It was about getting into the parties and get my mixes heard… Squat parties, Student nights, pubs, mixtapes, college events, in sum muddy fields… then climbin my way on2 the pirates, internet radio which helped 2 get me in2 the venues n clubs! Plenty more 2 cum, world a small place, be nice 2 keep spreading the sound worldwide.
