Been a bit slack on the whole internet thing in recent months but bare wiv me while i try get it updated! I try and get the weekly tracklisting up from my show on Perception FM(saturdays 4-6pm by the way!) and any relative pics/vids etc... All my updates can be found in my blog along with any links to mixes ive done! On that note i need to do 1 soon lol!
My name is tommy, but some of you may know me as DJ Livid hence the myspace name! Being as this myspace thing is pretty much solely for my djin/music then im not gunna babble on about other stuff lol
During the mid/end of the nineties i was really into my hiphop/indie/house etc, when i was 13 i used to go to these under 18s night in a big function arena that theyve now knocked down and built an asda. i was only a kid so i didnt really know what i was listening to but we used to have our monthly fix of 'dance' music then back to the real world. it wasnt until a few years later that i got hooked. About 1999 uk garage was the word on every1s lips at my skool, everyone it seemed except me!! While every1 was ranting about flowers and casualty my mate nick started recording these tapes off sum beat-up-hand-me-down decks he had and would give em to me. it was mainly urban takeover stuff really, Muffler, Aphrodite, Mulder, Rascal & Klone etc....
Soon after i was knocking around wiv my cousin and his m8s hitting Helter Skelter, Slammin vinyl, One Nation etc @ places like the Sanctuary, Stratford Rex, Bagleys. Big up the crew from the skanktuary days!!
My m8 nick and my cousin had decks long before me but i use to tag along wiv em down to blackmarket records every saturday anyway. It was about spring 2003 when i bowled into the HMV opposite Blackmarket and got my first pair of turntables, they were those Numark dj-in-a-box packages haha!(i carried them ALL the way back to Luton on the train!) About 2 weeks after i bought them i had my first playout lol, at some dj comp down my local.......i didnt get very far!!! My Mum and Dad moved outta London when i was still nibbling peoples ankles so unfortunately Dunstable is my adopted hometown. I say unfortunately because as far as music is concerned it is a ghost town! So me, Nick(N*Dubz), my cousin (DJ Mission) and my m8 Webby(WKD) started our own night, we called it 26BASS. The first night went really well, the place was full capacity by 11pm and the bar took more money in the 1 night than they would usually do in a whole weekend!! All this for a bunch of local lads! It soon became clear that there was a bigger demand for dnb in our area and over the next year we drew more local djs/mcs into our little event! (big up all the ppl who repped u know who you are!!)
Soon enough a few people got tired of the whole dnb thing and we kinda went seperate ways, certain people were on lockdown and theN both the local record shops shut down!!! (rip streetsounds dunstable & soulsense luton)
Fast forward 2 years and me & N*Dubz were still buying the music and pushing the sound across Lutons airwaves (Mystery, Break, Envious & Noize FM). WKD was deep into the production side of things and had featured twice on BBC 1xtra as also did N*Dubz
I'd started to move away from the stereotypical sounds of drum and bass and dig that little bit deeper. I recorded a few mixes and started to pick up bookings off my own back. 2006 proved to be a pretty busy year for me in terms of play-outs through the 'Tom, Dick & Harry' crew, 'Contagious' and Lutons DBR crew who i linked up wiv last year. All the bookings were alongside the top dogs in the scene, check the flyer slideshow below :)
Right now things are looking good, not just for me but for the scene in general in my opinion, theres a lot of good music out there! Ive finally got a pair of 1210's and am in my second year on the long-running Perception FM 102.4 which im proud to be a part of(big up the family!) B4 I finish gota give a massive shout to the Perception team, Ultrafunk hitchin crew and shouts to everyone involved in 26BASS
Anyway if you've bothered to read all that above then big up!
