About Me
Born in the year of rat, month of snake, day of tiger, hour of monkey, in town of Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina. First band I played in was RESCUE PARTY, which I started with my schoolmates in 1989. By autumn of 1991 we recorded 7 songs DEMO and got our fair share of airplay on Student Radio in Sarajevo, as well as B92 in Belgrade. Independent record labels interest followed. Sounded to good to be true, and it was, kind of. Our misfortune was that about same time war in Yugoslavia broke out. Suddenly music became unimportant. Focus have changed. Survival became preoccupation. There will be no more Rescue Party. The band still have a cult status in Banja Luka (so I'm told), as we have apparently influenced some good bands there that appeared on local scene in late 90s.I moved (escaped) to London in late 1992, and for first few years struggled to survive, let alone gather half decent instruments and bare minimum of recording equipment. By 1996 I somehow managed to get things together and started recording ideas and songs on my 4-track. A few songs from OFANZIVA BEZUMLJA album date from around that period. From 1998 till 2001 I played bass guitar, sung on some songs and wrote some lyrics and music for a 3 piece rock band called THE EFFUSE. Our achievements include:Over 100 gigs,
Appearance on Japanese TV Asahi, in the program called I AM,
Tour of Japan,
Releasing FAT CITY EP in 2000 and THE EFFUSE LP in 2001,
Airplay on XFM UNSIGNED radio program,
Headlining “Millennium Eve†night at famous HOPE & ANCHOR pub in North London.Split in 2002 due to one of the member’s serious illness. It took me over a year to get over break up of a band (there was a lot of hard work and emotions put into it), but in 2003, as a part of self-healing process I began to work on my solo project, CACTUS IN A BABYSHOE. My Idea was to try and make alternative rock album using solely one trusty sequencer (can’t tell you which one :)), while making it lyrically conceptual album, that will tell story of my (lost & found) years in London. All in all, it is something I like to call “bedroom rockâ€...Then, in summer 2006 my good good friend Emir sent some songs to a legendary Zdenko Franjic, who runs probably the coolest indie label on Earth, SLUSAJ NAGLASNIJE/ LISTEN LOUDEST!...he liked my stuff, so I appeared on "Bombardment of New York - part 11" (don't panic! He started releasing compilations under such name long time ago, part 1 came out in 1990!!!!)...and then Zdena said that he would like to release both of my albums...and here we are...
