Instigating the rule of thumb

About Me

The Sinister Left was formed in 2005 by four expatriates living in Hong Kong with enough diversity and influences to create an unusual mix of sounds.Dark, hypnotic and experimental, their music is made of tales, dreams, broken pieces of scenes all weld together with melodic angst and grooves. While minimalistic at times, their lyrics and tunes take you through a maze of twists and turns submitting you to an unexpected journey. Always challenging themselves to push things forward while looking back to the music that inspired them to create their own."Music industries often promote and encourage the outer layer of music: from visual appearance, easy listening, happy endings to mass appeal. We've chosen to make music with depth, regardless of what people expect to hear and see, but hopefully they will like it as much as we do." - NathanThey have performed at the Underground, Listen Up! and Rock-It Festival 2006 and aim to continue their onslaught on the Hong Kong indie music scene.

Sounds Like: "The Sinister Left. Their music is of quite a different sort, you're either on their train or you're not. It needs some attention to really get into their groove of guided noise, but you will be rewarded with a rich, enveloping trance-like experience if you really step into the sound. Even the drums will capture your awe with their complexity and depth, continuously leading you around and surprising you, all the while deeply hypnotizing you. Their unusual musical style may not have mass appeal, but they are extremely skilled at what they do - a sinister form of hard rock." - Wally Amos, music critic, The Underground 32, Les Visages, 29/09/2006
