About Me

The Slang is a newly formed band with a lot of individual experience. Though the band has only been together a short time, they were recently chosen as one of Ohio’s Debunkify select artists.
Singer John Bobo (formerly of Trapper John) brings a vast background of success to the Slang. He has been invited to many of the premier music conferences - MPMF, NXNE and CMJ. John’s has enjoyed great success as a songwriter having his material included in both TV and film. This includes the title track to a Troma film DVD and a song in an HBO Special.
Guitarist/keyboardist Kris Kerr (formerly of Atlantic Recording artist Plumb) is a transplant to the Columbus area after spending time in Nashville. Kris has performed and toured nationally and is a key contributor to the songwriting of The Slang. Kris also has significant studio experience helping numerous bands (Blessed Union of Souls being one such example).
Bassist John Newsome also has considerable touring experience playing with many different artist and acts. In addition, he has also provided assistance to other national bands on the road (such as Rustproof artist SSV). John’s playing has been featured on tracks played on both NPR and XM in addition to many times on the local Columbus airwaves. He also provides background melodies to many of The Slang’s songs.
Drummer Chip Burke discovered his true love, the drums, in early high school. He took lessons with the renowned Steve Dodge. Chip played with several blues bands through out high school and early college. Following this, Chip worked closely with several singer/song-writers co-writing and arranging many songs, some of which were used in several NBC shows. Chip has since taken a great interest in all aspects of the recording arts including recording, mixing, mastering, and production and mixes and masters for clients domestically and internationally. With this background, Chip brings a clinicians approach to the samples incorporated into The Slang’s music.
The Slang is currently working on their first full-length album.
