Mashta Bashta

Mashta Bashta was formed on October 16th 2005 as a dream-come-truth for a couple of guys from Belgrade, Serbia.

Earlier on, Jovan and Vlada met Matija and from that point they started searching for musicians who'd be willing to play reggae, free from any border that has ever constituted it as a music genre.

Our first gig was a jam session at a caffee in downtown Belgrade, with Marko on bass guitar. It all came out better than we expected, since we've only had one rehearsal before that and we still didn't know eachother that much, both personally and musically.

In the next few months, we gathered some more people around the project, including Goran on rythm guitar, Milos on keyboards, Dejan on percussions and Srdjan on saxophone to record our first song, Zion Train. Later on, Marija, Cili, Petar and Beka joined, but Goran and Dejan left the band due to musical disagreements.

Our lyrics reflect our daily struggles with the capitalist/imperialist/slavery system, but you may also bump at a love song or two, just to be sure that there still is something worth living and fighting for.

First bigger show we played was at Akademija club in Blegrade, on 3rd of June. The club was full and atmosphere was outstanding, even though we've only had one song recorded and available for download. Thanks to everyone who was there that night, we realized that we were going the right direction.

A gig with Kanda, Kodza i Nebojsa followed, as well as a show in Smederevo at PatosOFFiranje festival.

Our second song Dan (Day) is finally out and downloadable here. It was recorded before Beka and Petar joined. We're currently jamming, rehearsing and preparing ourselves for another studio battle, this time with the full line-up. Also, new shows in Belgrade coming soon, so stay tuned all of you from around the block. :)
