If you were music, you would hate how I smothered you. Music is the only thing that I love most of all. I would rather starve than never listen to music. If I had a choice between finding the love of my life and losing my hearing, I would choose not finding the love my life. That said, I'm not crazy about country music(unless it's classic) and gangster rap. My ears and my soul are none too happy to hear twang, whining, and anger. I am very partial to alternative music that is quirky, trippy, playful, spacey, dreamy, and folky. I also greatly enjoy oldies, vocal music, cumbia, obscure rare 60's/70's music, and World music(especially from East India and Brazil)...
I most lean towards movies that are inspirational, artistic, thought provoking, out there, original, foreign, or just downright funny. I'm not much into chick flicks, I do have a few favorites in that category though...Garden State(My favorite movie soundtrack! It's the one I shared with the one I hold dear to my heart), Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, I love Huckabees, What Dreams May Come, Finding Neverland, The Legend Of 1900, Benny And Joon, Amelie, Man On The Moon, Being John Malkovich, Moulin Rouge, Dead Poet's Society(Every poet should definitely see this one), Breakfast At Tiffanys, Serendipity, Harold And Maude, It's A Wonderful Life, Dust To Dust(Por La Libre), Dirty Filthy Things(Not what you might be thinking), Good Will Hunting, Munna Bhai MBBS, Santitos, The Grandfather, It's A Wonderful Life, The Notebook, Message In A Bottle, Nora, City Of Joy, Pulp Fiction, When Harry Met Sally, Harold And Kumar, A Happy Accident, Annie Hall, Brazil, Santa Sangre(If you can stomach Kill Bill, you can stomach this one, maybe...bizarre cult movie) all of Austin Powers movies, Kung Fu Hustle, Office Space, La Cienaga, Parineeta, Paheli, Mouth To Mouth(Boca A Boca), Kal Ho Na Ho, Munna Bhai MBBS...There's some more, but this is it for now, or I'll turn this into a huge list! LOL. :P
Definitely "My Name Is Earl"!!! A comedy sitcom about Karma..."As the blazing fire reduces wood to ashes, similarly, the fire of Self-knowledge reduces all Karma to ashes." and the ever popular "What goes around, comes around." are two of my favorite quotes. The other TV sitcom I love to watch is "Third Rock From The Sun".....Lastly, I absolutely cannot stand most reality TV shows, and Desperate Housewives. The actresses in that TV Show are way too over the top. Botoxed Boring Bimbos! Ugh. Sorry, but I really can't stand that show and wonder why some people are fascinated by it. Nuff said.
The Bible, ispirational and spiritual books by Mother Theresa, Wayne Dyer, Thich Naht Hanh(He is a vietnamese budhist monk who is a peace activist. He is definitely one of my heroes! See below)...Here are a couple of his quotes which I try to live by on a daily basis..."In true dialogue, both sides are willing to change." and "When we come into contact with the other person, our thoughts and actions should express our mind of compassion, even if that person says and does things that are not easy to accept. We practice in this way until we see clearly that our love is not contingent upon the other person being lovable.") Poetry written by Jorge Luis Borges(amazing argentinian writer! his writings are most honestly, thought provoking)Cesar Vallejo, Paul Laurence Dunbar(First African American Poet to gain national reconition as a poet...I most especially love his poems "Ships That Pass In The Night" "If I Could But Forget" and "The Poet And His Song")James Joyce(mostly his poetry), Nathaniel Hawthorn(The Scarlet Letter and just about all his letters and journal writings), Oscar Wilde(his poem "My Voice" being my favorite...), Overall, I love books that are inspirational, poetic, unusual, witty, about strange but true facts, oddities, and plum full of useless information too. Uncle Johns' Bathroom Reader books are coooool. I also own an extensive collection of cookbooks that I've collected over the past 12 years. I do cook so they're not there just for eye candy! Mmmm Candy! LOL
