About Me

guitars, banjos, mandolins, flutes, hitting things with hands (babies are pretty good for that - the random burps are great), keyboards (with long pauses between notes)... in fact it's all about the spaces between the notes, listening to decay and appreciating the inherent beauty.
mostly wavertonian nowadays, them kids are lovely, talented bastards though, glad they don't mind a touch of shambolicism in a doGGG
bless those timbreland fellows one and all, marvellous kiddlywinkles with talent and love in equal measures
OUT NOW! THE WAVERTON COLLECTIVE'S DEBUT E.P. 'WELCOME TO WAVERTONIA'Available at Piccadilly Records & Big Pink in Manchester's Northen Quarter, and some other places too
The Timbreland Recordings compilation "Furthest Branches From the Trunk" is availible now from Piccadilly Records, Rough Trade and Normans Records, as well as online from Boomkat, amongst others.
"A unique blend of folk and electronica and all sorts of traditional sounds, Furthest Branches From The Trunk proves that Manchester still has many threads, many scenes and plenty of fresh new ideas" Manchestermusic.co.uk
"Manchester¹s hottest new label weighs in heavy for their first shot at a compilation, tackling local talent and folky folk from a little further away. The label has quickly established itself as a primary outlet of all things jangly and folky, and now it's eager to assert it's vision slightly wider than people may expect.......the real beauty in this disc though is it's scope and unrelentingly fresh attitude, it's clear the guys behind Timbreland know exactly what they¹re doing and I for one am going to keep a close eye on their progress" Boomkat
A live version of Anna Zweck's 'Dorothy' can be found on 'Red Deer Club Volume 2'. Recorded in the most marvellous Sacred Trinity Church from Sounds From The Other Festival in sunny Salford last year. (The studio version is featured on 'Welcome To Wavertonia')
The E.P. version of Trans-Siberian Express can also be found sitting alongside such talent as The Answering Machine and Ed Cottam on:

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: timbreland.co.uk/artist_details/10_salt
Band Members: Salty DoGGG is me.
I also play with The Waverton Collective as often as I can; they do wonderful things with my ideas and let me do fun things with theirs.
Influences: I feel that possibly something more detailed is requried than simply 'everything I've ever heard', even though that's clearly the case for everyone.
Obviously the people I apparently sound like are influences, but I've spent the last ten years being obsessed with any combination of electronica (original sounds/sonicscapes), British hiphop (of the Grand Central/Ninjatune flavour, not really rap), jazz, dub, DnB, tekno.
This year I have mostly been addicted to John Smith, Denis Jones, Starless and Bible Black, Espers, Ani DiFranco ('Reprieve' may be the best produced album ever!), Mrs Pilgrim and a fair few others I simply cannot remember!
My 6month old daughter is instantly soothed by Nancy Cunliffe, so I've probably heard 'The Wheel Turning King' about four thousand times, and I still love it. Quite a compliment, methinks!
Sounds Like: Someone playing guitar and occassionally singing. Apparently reminiscent of Nick Drake, John Martyn, Bert Jansch, Ani DiFranco (the usual, eh? very flattering though!)... I think people are missing out on Harold Budd (were he to play guitar instead of piano) and elements of Erik Satie, but what do I know?
Record Label: Timbreland & Wavertone
