About Me

Underlapper have been playing together since 2002: their wide-screen, clear-eyed musical vision growing in confidence with each passing year. In 2007, Underlapper have reached a creative peak with the release of their second full-length album Red Spring. Underlapper's 2005 debut album, What came forth from the sea, revealed a young band bold enough to mine the deepest seam and return with a glittering prize. It intelligently fused left-field hip hop with post rock in a way unheard in Australian music up until then. The MCing recalled classics from the Anticon stable while the instrumentation pushed the boundaries of genre in an intelligent, surprising and uplifting way. Underlapper's 2006 remix release transported the band into a deeply obtuse pop zone when Feral Media's posse of producers (Alpen, Comatone, Scissors for Sparrow, Seaworthy) pushed and stripped Underlapper's original tunes even further, revealing strong sonic architecture, great sounds and stunning hooks. The new album, Red Spring is certainly greater than the sum of its parts. The big picture reveals an ambitious experimental pop album, designed to be listened to from end to end repeatedly. The first single from the album, Little Tapioca, is a warm meditative slice of acoustic pop music. The transcendental vocal harmonies sit atop chiming acoustic guitars and the fuzzy texture of the everyday grind. After a long, gentle skittering opening, live favourite 'Fools' Cap' expands the Underlapper sound into epic proportions. Red Spring's overall tone is at times futuristic, sometimes spooky (Haunted Cornice). Atmospheric link tracks like 'Werewolf etiquette for self defence' and 'Terrace' move in strange dimensions, but also hang together in perfect symmetry. The album was mixed by Daniel Jumpertz (Alpen) and features contributions from Jon Tjhia (Scissor for Sparrow, Aleks + the Ramps, ii) and Greg Seiler (Comatone, Trigger Happy). Underlapper's music exists beside the mainstream - in a fertile parallel zone of creative pop music inhabited by like-minded artists such as Why?, Four tet, Tunng, Khonnor, B.Fleischmann, Ariel Pink and Electric President.(-Taken from Feral Media)...............................Underlapper will be playing shows in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne to support the new album in 2007.....................CLICK ON THE BANNER BELOW TO PURCHASE THE NEW ALBUM FROM OUR LABEL FERAL MEDIAI edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
