CLAUDE FRANCOIS : yeye - soul-pop & disco legend

About Me

Claude François, born in Egypt in 1939, became one of the greatest and most famous French singers and composers. His first big hit was the wunderful and lighthearted "Belles, belles, belles" issued at the end of 1962.Nicknamed "Clo-Clo", the popularity of Claude François increased quickly during the years 1963 to 1965. He was nearly the first to bring Tamla-Motown sound to France in 1966.With songs like "Alexandrie Alexandra" in 1977, he became a cult figure of disco music. So many years after his acciental death in march 1978, his songs remain big classics of French repertoire. But among his hundereds of songs recorded between 1962 and 1978, there are some sixties pop-rock gems that got lost on some B-sides and you can discover some of them on this MySpace.Claude François and France Gall had a discrete but intense relationship since late 1966. The late 1967 song "Comme d'habitude", that was adapted in English by Paul Anka and sung by Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley under the title "My Way" was inspirated by France Gall who left Claude in mid 1967. They joined again in 1974 just to sing together in a TV show :
