DIA DE LOS MUERTOS aka DOD (Day of The Dead): a ceremony held every year through Mexico to honor the dead. We offer food, music, prayer, and dance. This is a time when our loved ones which have journeyed to "mictlan" (the land of the dead), come visit us on earth. So in order to guide them here we make an alter at their graves or at home. We place their favorite things: for example if they liked cigarretes their favorite brand or type, if they are children their favorite toy, or even food. Any thing that reminds them of home, we place of picture of them, or anything that symbolizes their spirit. You use yellow and bright orange Marigolds known as "Zempazuchitl" the smell is so strong it guides them back. There needs to be light so alot of white candles. You can light some "copal" as well and place a cup of water. We also have tarditional "Sugar skulls" on these skulls you can put your loved ones names. Oh and play music for them they like it. All the elements of nature synthesized through your these objects on your alter (water, earth, fire, wind). A cosmovisionary philosophy of the nahuatl people still lives! VIVA LA MUERTE! y VIVA LA VIDA!!
