Tommy Mora
Rock and Soul, that popular hip-shaking genre launched in the great era of the 60s and 70s has long been a staple of the musical lexicon. Rock musics dynamic vigor-a concoction of Texas based blues, driving guitar rhythms, insistent organ, a fat backbeat, superb vocals and colossal bass grooves is lovingly revived in the youthful persona of the "New Voice of Rock and Soul", Tommy Mora.
Tommy Mora, a southwest El Paso, TX native, is a rarity in a world populated by artists stamped out in todays clinical computerized music production system. His infectiously heartfelt music is so infused with the spirit and verve of classic rock, especially his favorite that is the Chicano sound that emerged from Californias Bay area during the 60s and 70s (which included such artists as Santana, War, Tower Of Power and Sly and the Family Stone). His passion for Latin culture can be heard on such songs as Alcanzar, Llevame and Vive which are completely in Spanish. Tommy says, "Spanish is such a beautiful language, very powerful and passionate. Some words have more meaning when spoken in Spanish rather than English." "During the recording of this record I had an idea what it would be like to expose the Latin Rock scene to more soulful, organic and honest type of music. "Theyre songs of survival, hope and promise", he adds but with a driving force that makes you turn up your radio, get you pumped and give you the confidence to accomplish anything!! But thats not all; you can also hear his influence coming from artists such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield and Jose Feliciano. In the track Misery with the infectious Bo Diddley guitar intro and the blazing drum beat that follows the listener can only wonder why such a driving song would have that title. Mora says, "Music is freedom, when the demons try to corrupt you, you must be stronger." "Wont you let me be, Come on set me free, Misery." Quiero Ser is a beautiful Spanish ballad, which unveils the heart of a man caught up in the brutal honesty of new love. With its masterful blend of passion-fused harmonies and unnerving slide guitar riffs clearly bare witness to the belief that classic rock and modern pop share a common birthright. Where did your heart go? takes the listener to different place in time perhaps late 1969 as a B-side or outtake to The Beatles White Album. With its beautiful melody the question is will his woman be there thru out the downs as well as the up's, after all only love and happiness can save them. Round and Round with its blistering drum rhythm and infectious guitar riff one can only suggest one thing, turn up your radio!
Now residing in Los Angeles, Tommy Mora composed, arranged, produced and performed all songs on his latest self-titled release Tommy Mora. "I really love the satisfaction knowing I played every instrument on this record, although I did invite some of my friends to sit in, we had a blast Its not an ego- thing its basically a way for me to express my personality through the different instruments I play." "I really love the records Prince did when he played all the instruments, he was very much in control of his music, I think thats very important for an artist!" Tommy Mora is a refreshing venture that is far more than a nostalgic trip down Memory Lane. It showcases Tommy Mora as a maturing songwriter while its production highlights increasingly naunced arrangements. In fact the album leaves the listener recognizing that emotional, brilliant soulful Rock music is still very much a reality. Although the comparisons to great artists is evident while listening to Tommy Mora after writing, arranging, producing and performing all tracks on the record all youre left with is the enormous talent of Tommy Mora.
