About Me

All you really need to know is that I never seem to be like what people expect before, during, and after meeting me. But I'll tell you more, anyway:
I'm a moderately misanthropic pop culture know-it-all.
I speak very little outside of work these days, but when I do, I usually manage to make good conversation, cause people to laugh (often purposefully), and I can be disarming (when I actually relax).
I toggle between being painfully shy and being socially dominant; if I could ever learn to control that, I would be dangerous. Instead, I'm just a bit weird.
You Are An INTP
The Thinker
You are analytical and logical - and on a quest to learn everything you can.
Smart and complex, you always love a new intellectual challenge.
Your biggest pet peeve is people who slow you down with trivial chit chat.
A quiet maverick, you tend to ignore rules and authority whenever you feel like it.
You would make an excellent mathematician, programmer, or professor. What's Your Personality Type?

My Interests

Computer Stuff, Social Engineering, Pool, All Things You'd Expect Someone Who Mentioned Computers to Like, Playing with My Hair, Coincidences, Seeking Attention, Avoiding Attention, Drinking, Bragging about Being in a Band, Proper Capitalization and Spelling, Irony, Flattery, Pop Culture References, Thinking Too Much for My Own Good, Being Pedantic, Solving Puzzles, Appearing in Columbus Alive.

I'd like to meet:

For someone who's used to keeping to himself, I have a way of getting around, and I tend to attract conversation (both welcomed and non-) from a variety of people. Basically, if you can decipher my dry sense of humor and not take it personally when I'm not being talkative, then we'd get along quite well.

Music:

Artists/Genres: Mr. Bungle, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Faith No More, Radiohead, The Doors, The Smiths, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Seatbelts, The Pillows (FLCL!), Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Beastie Boys, AiC, Soundgarden, STP, Spit, The Cure, Led Zeppelin, A Tribe Called Quest, Violent Femmes, RatM, White Zombie, Interpol, Elastica, Butthole Surfers, L7, Babes in Toyland, Digital Underground, etc. This list is not even close to being comprehensive, as I've got a couple hundred different albums around. There are a lot of honorable mentions.

I've finally started revisiting the old tub 'o cassettes, and I'm gradually adding things that I recall playing the hell out of. *

Next band gigs: [See Calendar ---]

*Also, feel free to insert whatever indie band you prefer right here _______. I assure you I'm cool enough to like it if I hear it, but I really don't feel like doing the research. You're only going to skim this, anyway.

**Henceforth, all tracks shall be played only once for the benefit of your sanity. One to grow on: There are other numbers than "infinite." There's gotta be at least like 67 of them.

Movies:

Donnie Darko, Super Troopers, Blue Velvet, A Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, Memento, The Matrix Trilogy (surprise!!), Cube (0-2), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Way of the Gun, dark comedies, psychothrillers, grifting capers, Everything that's marginally related to Ben Stiller, the Kevin Smith series and Tarantino, and pretty much everything else. My taste in movies is not what you might call discriminating. My friends that have known me long enough consider it a challenge to find movies that I plainly dislike.

I have become so consumed by my mission to watch as much as humanly possible that I hand-coded the following and keep it updated:

Most recently watched (for the first time) :

Privately viewed:

Bridge to Terabithia

Before that:

In a theater:

DOA: Dead or Alive

Before that:

Television:

Wow, this list is out-of-date. I should sort through it some time.
Nip/Tuck, Veronica Mars, Bones, The Office, The Venture Brothers, Adult Swim, The Dead Zone, SNL, Reno 911, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Lexx, Alias, 24, The Pretender, Farscape, Outlaw Star, Megas XLR, every animated DC/Marvel adaptation from the last 15 years or so, and too many other things to admit

For those of you who like hidden camera/prank stuff, the absolute best is Trigger Happy TV, closely followed by Oblivious.

Books:

The "Ender" series by Orson Scott Card, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "Trilogy" and everything else by Douglas Adams; Other authors: Neil Gaiman (most notably Good Omens, American Gods), Robert Asprin (MYTH series), Piers Anthony (Incarnations of Immortality series), William Gibson (pioneered the cyberpunk genre), Jonathan Lethem

Heroes:

Ender Wiggin, Julian Delphiki

The mood that first inspired this blog has passed (temporarily, I'm sure), but my blog's title (as with all my favorite titles) has multiple meanings and literal connotations. For now, it ma...

An overdue blog

Several weeks ago, I escaped from the dead-end job that I'd been lamenting about for the last couple of years. I'd allowed myself to think that I couldn't do better, and I stayed until it cost me near...

Keeping a straight face - Part 1

I usually don't have much trouble keeping a straight face while talking on the phone at work, but sometimes I'll either read or say something that requires a lot of effort. Here are a few ex...

Cinematic review: D.E.B.S.

As some of you may have noticed, one of the only things that I try to consistently update on my page is the Movies section. (This is, in part, a testament to one of my minor goals in life, w...

The Loss of My Humanity

I used to be an extremely patient person. Compared to many people, I would probably still be considered patient, but I know that I've lost something by working here for 3 years; it's something that I ...

Fast Food Analogy

Through my current job, I've been subjected to a number of unreasonable demands from customers who are upset, sometimes to the point of irrationality. Some of them are angry and abusive, and they issu...
