NATIONAL BLACK UNITED FRONT - HOUSTON CHAPTER The National Black United Front (NBUF) is a 25 year old activist organization headquartered in Chicago, Illinois led by National Chairman, Dr. Conrad Worrill. Currently the organization has 16 chapters across the country and supporters nationally and internationally.
Among NBUF'S goals are to unify Black people from various social/political persuasions, to build a politically conscious, unified, committed and effective Black mass movement and to confront white supremacy in it's various manifestations. The NBUF believes that in order for Black people in America to become a free, liberated and independent people we must be organized. Therefore, we believe all Black people should join an organization that is working in the interests of our people. We believe that the National Black United Front (NBUF) is such an organization and we urge you to join us. Although our condition in this country may be termed critical, it is not irreversible. You should consider joining NBUF because we believe that in these critical times there is a need for bold action and strong commitment to organize for Black Power, Self-Determination (Kugichagulia), and a higher quality of life for Afrikan and Afrikan descended peoples worldwide.

NBUF'S record of activism and advocacy includes being one of the organizations involved in the successful efforts to have Clarence Brandley from death row and the family court case of Franklin Chatman where NBUF support enabled his grandmother to regain custody from a white male attorney. Shrine of the Black Madonna Cultural Center & Bookstore (€œThe Shrine€?) is one of the nation€™s largest and oldest black-owned bookstores, with locations in Detroit , Atlanta and Houston . The Shrine Bookstore is a non-profit institution that opened in 1970 with the goal of showcasing the creative talents of artists & authors of African descent and empowering people through educational workshops and cultural events. In addition to containing one of the largest selections of books related to the Black experience, the Shrine is also home to the Karamu Art Gallery and the Black Holocaust Museum.
Our objective as an institution of higher learning is to provide an excellent learning environment for all ethnic groups by allowing those of different backgrounds an opportunity to learn about African and African-American culture, history and experience.
Cultural Center & Bookstore In addition to our literary materials, we also carry a wide assortment of African clothing, hand-crafted jewelry, artist prints, African-American collectibles, greeting cards, gift items and much, much more.

Project Row Houses is a neighborhood based art and cultural organization located in Houston's Third Ward. PRH was established in 1993 on a site of 22 abandoned shotgun houses (c. 1930) to connect the work of artists with the revitalization of our community. It was inspired by the work of African-American artist Dr. John Biggers who celebrated the social significance of the shotgun house house community in his paintings. After a decade of successfully generating programs that combine arts and cultrual education, historic preservation, and community development, the future of the Third Ward is threatened by gentrification. To preserve and protect the irreplaceable historic and cultural legacy of our community, PRH spawned a sister organization, the Row House Community Development Corporation .
