About Me

Mail: Sincerely from Yours Truly - Ashley Sloggett
With heartfelt stories of travels and quiet observations of the world around her, Ashley Sloggett brings a lyrical freshness, and musical simplicity, to a world of overproduced bubblegum and broken hearts.
Hailing from Burlington, Ontario, Ashley has always been surrounded by a strong musical presence. As a child, household staples ranged from Kate Bush to Talking Heads, Joni Mitchell to The Eurhythmics, and an eclectic mix everywhere in between. These laid the foundation for her strong, heartfelt lyrics that she would begin to pen early into her adolescence.
Fast-forward to her teen years when Ashley found herself faced with decisions that would carve out her future. Uninspired by the humdrum of conformity, Ashley managed to stand apart from the crowd. While other girls were receiving cell phones and make-up, her 14th Christmas brought her an acoustic guitar. This remained a hobby for most of her teenage hood while she marketed herself primarily as a vocalist. She involved herself with many bands and projects, but found it hard to find a committed group of talented individuals that were accepting of a female front-man.
Meanwhile, theatre and performance became a very large part of her life and she found passion and content in entertaining an audience. Attending local shows fulfilled her penchant for live performance and she quickly found her niche of like-minded music lovers. She eventually began running her own shows at a local venue with the motivation to help out her friends and their musical endeavours.
After high-school Ashley attended Sheridan College for performing arts with the hopes of turning her passion for the stage into a career. Little did she know that this was a tiny way in the direction of her current approach to performance. She finished with honours and a career in unemployment, but an itch to create.
The autumn of 2004 brought a new design of inspiration when Ashley recorded a rough demo and published it on an online music community. Receiving very little response to the barebones recordings, one person, however, took notice in her potential.
Stoney Creeks Mike Ivanco (The Sitcom, In Search of 1988) urged Ashley to record more demos, where he would eventually rockify two of her naked acoustic tracks with friends, and band mates, Brian & Brent Wirth, in December 2004. This would officially mark the beginning of the Ashley Sloggett project.
The springtime sprouted an inspired Ashley to improve her playing and song writing style with the anticipation of playing shows in the upcoming summer months. It wasnt long before London based indie-label Blacktop Records noticed Ashleys drive and asked her to join the family in the fall of 2005. Today, Ashley has played her brand of acoustic, poppy, folk-rock at dozens of venues all over Southern Ontario with a diverse range of acts from metal to country and everything in between. With influences ranging from Saves The Day and Jimmy Eat World, to Joni Mitchell, Tegan & Sarah and Bob Dylan, Ashleys lyrical maturity and her love for melody shine through in each tale she creates. Her first release The Demos (December 2005) is a 6-song EP that details her song-writing trip and motivation to see the world around her.
This summer she embarked on her first three-week mini-tour where she visited Quebec and most of Southern Ontario, alongside label mates Growing Down and Toronto's Lacerda.
