About Me

Hello, listeners, Cathedral & Rum began as a San Fernando Valley project in the early 90's. We have played at various clubs and coffee shops throughout So. California. We have incorporated a lot of different types of instrumentation in our music over the years: including Chapman Stick, trumpet, mandolin, saxophone, sitar, and violin. We can't stand the music business, but we'd still love for you to buy a cd. Our fourth full-length cd entitled "Sacred Hearts on Trial" will be out around November of 2008. Our first three are available here for purchase and the titles are: "Self-titled Debut", "American Gothic", and "Surreal Typewriter." ANYONE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING ANY CD'S SEND A MONEY ORDER FOR $15.00 AND SPECIFY WHICH CD, TO 600 SPRING RD. APT..8 MOORPARK, CA. 93021. PAYABLE TO CHRIS HARTFORD.I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts!

Sounds Like: what to us dudes sound like?we sound like a group of zombie streetwalkers who smoke anything they can get in their pipes. we sound like a weird supergroup session with R.E.M., Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, and Tom Waits. We sound like the sum of our influences and we sound individual and distinctive at the same time. we sound like a clock ticking down the last few minutes of all that's gone wrong.

Time of Ashes

In folklore, there is a period of a man's life known as the time of ashes. Robert Bly researched it well back in the heyday of "the men's movement". But, just as American men are prolonging their adol...

My Education

Tonight, I go into sleep. And I don't ask you to follow me. You can't, just as I can't follow you into sleep. We go into "the place" seperately. I dream a lot of anxiety and decay and betrayal and mur...

Ask me if I care

If we sleep 6-8 hours a night collectively, then 1/4 to 1/3 of our life is spent sleeping. And of dreamtime, half of it is probably nightmares or anxiety dreams... If we eat 3 or four times a day, the...

The Gamble: Talk Talk, Tom Waits, U2.

In the nineteen sixties, The Beatles exploded the idea of the arc of a band's progression, ending in the orgasm of "Abbey Road". "Let it Be" was just sort of a fucked up cigarette after sex.  &n...

Midlife Crisis

There's a picture of my father that I have (I don't know where I put it, but...), and if I was about six or seven, in the picture with him, he must have been in his early thirties. For whatever r...

The Cure’s "Pornography"

Sometime, in the early eighties, the Cure made one of their very best albums. Hanging around goth teenagers in the eighties, I heard most of all that stuff, but I didn't buy a copy of "Pornography" un...

Reviews

for the cd "American Gothic": This is the band that’s playing at the bar where you go to drink yourself into a stupor over life’s hardships, and they provide the requisite soundtrack...
