Sounds Like: I used to sound like Bob Dylan. That was back when my guitar was all beat up and I had shoulder length wavy hair, even sideburns. And I wasn't sure the person who said was trying to be complementary or not. She said it with a bit of a smirk that time. I asked her about it and she hastened to say that she thought it was a good thing. I married her.Recently, I was described as a young Willie Nelson (not by my wife either!). I looked up his age....and I don't have to be real young to sound like a young Willie. It appears that he's about 106 now! So I'm not sure I'm safe.I like music styles of playing and singing like Willie, James Taylor, Stephen Stills, and David Crosby. I prefer the playing style of JT, Stills, and David Crosby to that of Willie, since it appears that Willie's playing style tends to put large secondary holes in his guitars. I've seen that guitar up close. The hole isn't fake. I wonder if Willie realizes how big that hole is.....I enjoy writing country music, a few Christian songs, and have been producing more lyrics that are suited to acoustic guitar, like Trailer Trash Woman, because they seem to feature the message of a song more poignantly than a more orchestrated backup would.I like hearing the lyric of a song to get inside the head of that poet. You find out things about people by what they say, because over time, they tend to looosen up and start to reveal themselves better through their music.A lot of times, the lyric a person writes reveals a background you would not expect. I like that, because you can tell more about yourself through a song and it won't put people off like it might if you came out and said it to someone. In fact, we probably wouldn't have near the number artists if they all had to read their lyrics out loud, rather than singing them. Music couches a tough message or a sordid story, unlike an unvarnished poem.Encapsulating a poet's thoughts in music, allows the poet to be heard over and over again, without the tiring one experiences by hearing a dry reader, even a good one, more than twice.
