About Me

Greg Felton is regarded as one of the best young pianist/ composers to emerge in Ireland in recent years. His unique piano style embodies his love for all musics of strength and beauty – ranging from jazz and folk traditions to free improvisation and South Indian classical music. His is an intelligent and open musical mind at work.He gained expertise in many areas through intensive study with Ronan Guilfoyle in Dublin, Dave Liebman in the USA, Dave Douglas and Vijay Iyer in Banff, Canada and Dr. K.S. Subramaniam and Trichur Narendren in Chennai, India. He is very active in Newpark music centre where he teaches composition, piano and rhythm studies.Greg´s compositional skills are, at this stage, well recognised and he was commissioned to write and perform a large-scale piece with the group White Rocket for the RTÉ Living Music Festival in 2007.Other performance highlights include support slots to Charles Lloyd with Jason Moran, Dave Douglas and Steve Coleman as well as representing Ireland in the EuroJazz Festival in Mexico City with White Rocket in March 2007.Bands include:The Greg Felton Quartet: Michael Buckley - Sax, Greg Felton - Piano and Compositions, Cormac O'Brien - Bass, Sean Carpio - Drums,White Rocket: Jacob Wick (USA) - Trumpet & Compositions, Greg Felton - Piano & Compositions, Sean Carpio - Drums & Compositions.Reviews:'The most gifted young pianist on the scene´ – The Irish Times ''Exceptional young pianist´ – The Irish Times'The most promising young keyboard performer here´ – The Irish Times
