About Me

NEW! Liz Van Dort has contributed a song to the new "Effleurement" CD (Prikosnovenie)
Hmmmmm, describing my music and sound is not easy. Over the years I've sung pop, jazz, folk, world and funk and originally studied classical singing for many years. I'm interested in mixing multicultural singing sounds and styles with more popularist music. I think of myself as a recording artist rather than a performance artist, if that makes sense ;-)
I started working in Australia as a studio artist, singing in bands, singing on tv and radio commercials and so on. I did a solo show for a little bit, singing lots of different songs from around the world with minimal accompaniment. Also did some musical theatre. Later, moving to the the UK, I was lucky enough to appear on CDs and work on recording projects with major artists such as Sting, Peter Gabriel and more and got to tour and do other performances.
These days I live in Melbourne, Australia, am currently working on some new music for release (to be finished soon, I hope) and developing my interest in film and television composition, which came about after some of my vocal recordings were used on TV and in short films.

Influences: Growing up, some of the famously experimental female singers have influenced me, such as Kate Bush, Marta Sebestyen and Lisa Gerrard - also folk and celtic singers such as Maire/Moya Brennan, Enya and numerous other less well known folk and traditional singers from around the world.

Also love Jethro Tull, The Doors, psychadelic sixties music - these have definitely influenced me, but I sound absolutely NOTHING like them ;-)

Am influenced by all kinds of music, really. Folk, rock, jazz, classical, songs from all across the world, plus the unusual and bizarre.

Also love working with interesting sounds, styles, segments and putting them together in unusual ways.

Sounds Like: at times like Massive Attack, Bjork, Kate Bush, Lisa Gerrard... but not exactly...
and kind of like Moby, in that I like creating little pieces using lots of different sounds and styles. Yeah, that's it - a female Moby :-) Except I sing everything myself.
