S.L.500 is to millennium hip-hop music what Marvin Gaye and Al Green were to ‘70s and ‘80s R&B. Born in Pasadena California, a young S.L. then known simply as Squizzel, was forced to experience lower living or commonly put, the streets. After being abandoned by his mother and watching his father pass in front of him at the age of eight, S.L. had questions and answers that could only be expressed through an art form that came natural to him, hip hop. Soon out-cast as “the black sheep†S.L. experienced rough times from being kicked out of family members households to losing key individuals in his life due to deaths. At the age of 19 S.L. was federally charged for smuggling illegal immigrants into the united states and served 2 years in a federal penitentiary. While serving his sentence S.L. not only honed his skills but perfected them.
