About Me

When Machines Dream was founded in the late 90's by John Mendenhall. An Obsession with the sounds of analog synthesizers and drum machines, coupled with a lifelong interest in science fiction formed the basis of his vision for the new project. In this vision, the lines between the virtual and the tactile smear together - synthesis of man & self-actualized machines in a pixilated, dystopian future. The resulting sound is an eclectic mix of Dance, New Wave, Trance and Drum 'N Bass, forged with a vast array of classic and modern synthesizers and Drum Machines. Influenced by a wide variety of electronic music from the last few decades,and profoundly affected as a participant in the 90's rave scene, When Machines Dream draws on these elements and pulls them together to forge a sound that is equally at home on the dancefloor and the iPod.
In addition to When Machines Dream, I am the singer and co-producer of Oscillator X with my musical partner Kyle Ward. Our music has been featured in the video game Pump It Up Pro. We have also performed across the country and as far away as Norway. Kyle and I also produce the Eurodance act Coconut and recently purchased the New York based record label SCI Recordings.
