Barrett is a producer, songwriter, recording/mixing engineer, film and TV composer, drummer and drum instructor. After graduating with a degree in philosophy from UCLA, Barrett took the Law School Admission Test and scored 99 percentile. Soon after, he was accepted to the top 3 law schools in L.A. with scholarship offers; he turned them all down to pursue music.
Since then, Barrett's songs, productions, drumming and recordings have been featured on MTV, MTV2, NBC's "Today in L.A," the hit show "America's Next Top Model," terrestrial radio, satellite radio, cable television, and continue to be played over 30,000 times a month on Yahoo! Music. He has played sold-out shows in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, the largest in front of 16,000 people at the legendary Hollywood Bowl where Barrett performed his original symphonic composition "Anahid" on July 29, 2007.
His music has been praised in several international magazines and newspapers including The Los Angeles Times and The Japan Times; he has been interviewed on NBC's "Today in L.A." and on the radio; and his work has been nominated for and has won prestigious awards on both the east and west coasts. He has scored several short films; he is endorsed by Pork Pie Drums; and he has a licensing agreement with MTV for his instrumental music. The song "Coward," produced and engineered by Barrett, won a contest on MTV2 securing the band Art of Chaos an opening slot on the Project Revolution Tour with Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance.
Barrett's current projects include Drew Lawrence, History, Katie Mack, Adrienne Woods, Michelle Clark, Hooshere, Douglas Ladnier, Strange Day and Jay Jacobson, among others. He teaches 15 drum students ranging from beginner to advanced. He is also a columnist on the online version of the music industry's leading trade magazine HITS - www.hitsdailydouble.com - where Barrett writes a column titled "Artist Empowerment in the New Music Industry."
