Established in 2003 by two brothers from the Turtle Mountain Chippewa reservation, Hanta Yo is a band driven to change the culture of popular rock music from where it presently stands, in a field of poop. Shortly after arriving in the Twin Cities, they hooked up with a drummer from Grand Forks, North Dakota, ultimately creating a foundation for thier unique sound. The trio quickly added a bass and the band Pilgrim was formed, playing such venues as Renegades in Burnsville, The Whisky Junction in Minneapolis, and Saba's in Shakopee. While gigging locally, the band recorded thier first full-length cd, consisting of songs written by the brothers years earlier. As time went on, the band went through some changes, beginning with the loss of thier bass player and ending with renaming the band Hanta Yo (Hawn-tuh Yo), a Sioux phrase meaning "clear the path".
