Moray Eel started in 1998 as a band of best friends. None of them was a professional musician. At first the band was only a hobby, and rehearsals were used to organize drink-parties and invite hordes of so-called fans. Only later musicians began to take their work more seriously. The bands name symbolizes aggression and predatory wishes, it was chosen by Kate and Alex, whom we can call the founders of the band. Early musical experiments resembled thrash-punk with Russian lyrics. Unfortunately no records of that period kept safe. The first concert took place in May, 1999 in a recreation center near Moscow. Note by note, concert by concert Moray Eel formed their own style, line-up dramatically changed, more professional musicians came on the scene. The band played many gigs to attract audience. In 2000 Kate and Alex asked Fred Bato, a great drummer from Moldova, to help Moray Eel with a concert in Karelia. At the same time they decided to invite Vladimir Dobrovolsky (keyboards). So the best and the most stable Moray Eel line-up formed. From that moment Moray Eel uses mostly English lyrics. In 2002 the band started to compose songs for the debut album, but for reasons beyond control studio was waived. Only in 2004 the studio demo containing 5 songs was recorded. The songs from the demo later appeared on the album unchanged. Soon Moray Eel signed a contract with one of Russian majors, Soyuz/Metalagen, and release album Psycho: Delusion in April, 2005.Music becomes more aggressive, with more accurate and rhythmical guitars, elements of angry and death metal are used generously. All this combined with Kates unusual vocal manner, ranging from clear singing to harsh screaming and growling, blasphemous lyrics and incredible concert energy put the band in the forefront of Russian underground scene.Moray Eel continues to play gigs in Moscow clubs, takes part in important Russian festivals, like Nashestvie, tours Russia, Ukraine. The line-up changes again Pavel Chernobay from melodic-death band Everlost replaces Ilya Bessonov (Bes), Vladimir Dobrovolsky leaves Moray Eel. The most popular Russian metal music magazine Dark City called Moray Eel The best new band of 2005, and Psycho: Delusion took the 3d place as the best Russian metal album 2005.At the moment Moray Eel works at the second album. Its expected to be released in Autumn 2006 by Soyuz/Metalagen.
