Robert Oleysyck

DJ / Producer / Remixer / Music Programmer

About Me

With a career spanning more than seventeen years, Robert Oleysyck has emerged as one of the worlds most talented, diverse, and respected DJs. Roberts list of accomplishments not only speaks volumes about his dedication to the art and total immersion in the music industry, but his personal belief in music as the soundtrack of life and an ultimate form of expression.
As a driving force in the west coast for many years, Robert captivates and inspiring audiences with his unique blend of forward thinking electronic music. Whether hes playing house, progressive, breaks, trance, or even a mix of rock, 80s, hip-hop and electronica, his ability to seamlessly merge a variety of styles into a cohesive, inspirational, entertaining set, has won over the hearts of legions of fans and industry peers. Known as one of the best programmers and most technically fluid DJs around, his vast knowledge of music and the science behind the art allows him to create true magic.
Currently holding residencies at Tao, Late Night Empire, and RA Sushi, hes had tenure in Las Vegas at Spundae, Giant, Ice, Rain, Ghostbar, House of Blues, Drais, C2K, Curve, Babys, Plush, and a five year run at the legendary Utopia. In addition, hes performed at hundreds of clubs and events throughout North America and Europe. Voted as one of America's best Resident DJ's, ..1 DJ in Las Vegas, and recently selected as one of Vegas top 100 attractions, Robert has been an active member of the infamous Balance Record Pool since 1997, sharing company with the top progressive DJs in North America and the UK.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Robert immigrated to New York in 1974. His fascination with beats and drums was apparent at an early age, and served as a vehicle for his burgeoning musical interests. It wasnt until Robert went to college at Villanova in Philadelphia (oddly enough as a Pre-Med Major) that he first discovered DJing. In a short time, Robert started mastering his mixing abilities at mobile gigs, college bars, and frat parties spinning diverse sets that included music by New Order, Depeche Mode, Information Society and Grand Master Flash. Roberts style began to develop more when he moved to Memphis, and was exposed to artists such as Kraftwerk, Dee-Lite, Black Box and Front 242. There, Robert carefully blended alternative electronic sounds like Depeche Mode with Italian House and Hip House. Las Vegas was the pivotal shift in Roberts style and career. In the early 90s, he began incorporating artists like Fluke, Jam & Spoon, The Prodigy, and Moby into his gigs at infamous venues like the Palladium, and the Shark Club, constantly walking a fine line between educating audiences with new sounds, while entertaining them with classics and favorites. In addition to his many club gigs, Robert was making a name amongst the party circuit, but his performance at the "Desert Move" party in 1995 which featured artists and DJs from all over the world like, Electric Skychurch, Derrick May, John Acquaviva, Keoki, Westbam, and Josh Wink, spurred him to truly dedicate himself to the music and culture he loves. Shortly after, he was a featured guest in 1997s Electric Highway Tour, and Electric Circus, a dance show on Canadas Much Music television network. Robert quickly moved up the ranks and cemented his place amongst the top DJs in the world, sharing the decks with the likes of Sasha, Carl Cox, Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, Chris Fortier, Tall Paul and a host of others.
Roberts hard work paid off when was selected as a Billboard Dance Panelist in 1997, a prestigious honor bestowed to only about 130 DJs in America. Hes also had three commercially released and nationally distributed mixed DJ compilations, all of which huge praise from critics and fans alike. However, Roberts role in the music industry goes far beyond that of just a DJ. Not only has he written many music reviews for magazines such as Mixer, Big Shot, Thousand Words and BPM, but he currently writes gear reviews for Remix Magazine and consults for Stanton Magnetics, where he performs training and demonstrations for products such as Final Scratch and authors product manuals. He was also recently involved as the Director for the Interstate Records DJ School, where he wrote, developed and taught an in depth instructional curriculum about the art, business, and philosophy of DJing. Furthermore, Robert owns a fully functional Pro Tools project studio, Park Studios. With remixes and original works for the likes of Deepsky, Sony, RCA, and his own partnered record label, Blaq Velvet, he's also working on original music for industrial applications like commercials, short films and video games, and provides automated music programming solutions for restaurants, retail locations, and other venues. A love of music, an open mind, a dedicated spirit, a hearty work ethic, and years of experience has brought him to the top of his field and earned him praise and respect from his peers in the music community.
