Sounds From Atlantis
Sounds from Atlantis defies easy categorization by melding pop folk with ethereal progressions and still interjecting body-moving rock that satisfies that inner tribal beat. Recently finishing shows at the infamous Knitting Factory in NYC and playing with the Blue Method at Grape Street in Philadelphia has helped give Sounds from Atlantis the notoriety they deserve. Pushing harder than ever, Tony Cooksey has done well to take yet another stab at convincing the east coast with his lyrics and writing structure. Unlike before the new accompaniment of a full band has added to the over all success of Sounds from Atlantis. Gregory Israel mixes teeth clenching bass riffs with atmospheric, sometimes orchestral, strings and harmonies. Brian Butcher is the keyboardist and saxophone player, many times juggling the two while managing to lean into the microphone to add to the band's choirboy harmonies. Drummer and avid percussionist Matthew Walker drives home many of their beat driven songs with an almost brooding demeanor while on stage, reminding the listener how difficult it has to be to find a rhythm in all that orchestrated mayhem.
