If you can't live on love alone, it isn't love

About Me

My awesome uni band / and side-project

Hey, I'm Rob. I study English at Exeter University, which is a damn good place to be. I write short stories, music and gig reviews, as well as poetry and prose, and I'm currently working on a novel, which will probably take me about 20 years to finish at it's current rate. I love music, and it is probably my main interest. I sing and play guitar in a band called The Domino Cut, as well as working on my own project called The Pantomime Thief. At one point in my life I wanted to become a politician and try and change the world that way, but after failing dismally at all attempts to get positions of power in school and college - added to my hatred of all the main political parties - I've kind of given up on that idea. Now, when I grow up, I want to be a fire truck.

My Interests

Dancing really badly in clubs, playing music with my band, reading sci-fi and embracing my inner nerd, writing loads of different stuff, generally being an arty so-and-so.

I'd like to meet:

I'm a pretty easy-going person, so I think I'd be pretty happy meeting anyone.

Music:

Music is my entire life - I play in a band called The Domino Cut, which is loads of fun and a great experience. I also make industrial/electronica as a side-project, called The Pantomime Thief. I recorded an album of this stuff in mid-2007, which I've been handing out to people. Generally it seems to have been well-regarded and hopefully I'll be able to take it further with a bit more time.Outside of the music I play, my favourite bands are Nine Inch Nails, IAMX, Sol Seppy, Portishead, Editors, Muse, Jeff Buckley, Saul Williams, Nude, Sneaker Pimps, Morcheeba, Massive Attack, Union of Knives, Serafin, Rico, and I could go on for days! My favourite genres are trip-hop and industrial, although I love rock, pop, electro, drum'n'bass, metal, ska, dance, punk, acoustic, and a tad of rap.

Movies:

28 Days Later, La Haine, and Das Experiment are my favourite films. I love stupid comedies like Anchorman and Dodgeball, and somewhat disturbingly I rather enjoyed The Holiday.

Television:

I love comedy shows on TV, especially Monkey Dust, Brasseye, Black Books, and to a lesser extent The Mighty Boosh. I also love some trashy TV like Supernatural, and I was hooked on Invasion until the series stopped. Since I've gone to uni, I've watched hardly any television, though.

Books:

The Beach by Alex Garland. My most prized possession is a signed copy of it. John Fowles is one of my favourite authors, and I particularly love the book The Collector. I am a big old fan of The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart, The Good Doctor by Damon Dagult, as well as any book by Michael Marshall Smith. Basically, any book that can scare the crap out of me solely through the use of narrative is welcome.

Heroes:

Dan Godbold, for A) eating out of a bin in year 7 B) being quite a capable bass player, but still not doing anything in band practices apart from playing the Chili's C) the prank he told me about at Jo's party. You know the one...
